✶𝙶𝚛𝚎𝚢✶
I'm already awake when I hear the rustling downstairs of Toby getting his things together.
I may or may not have gotten a little less than an hour in. I'm not entirely sure, to be honest.
All I know is I was up a couple of times before her nightmares could fully start and now. I'm up now because I promised I'd be up when he leaves.
I'm careful not to wake Sophia when I slide out of bed and leave the room. As quietly as I can, I go down the stairs to meet him in the living room.
"Mornin'," Toby smiles at me when he sees me. "Wasn't sure if you'd be up."
"Said I would."
Toby chuckles. "Dude, it's cool if you get some more sleep. You look like shit."
I scoff quietly. "Thanks." I dryly reply. He smiles at me as he tosses his backpack around his shoulders. "Drive safe." I offer. He's pretty much already out the door.
"I will." He nods. "Hey, don't be afraid to call." Toby smiles. "When you need something and when you don't." He quickly adds.
I chuckle quietly and look at my feet. "Yeah." I agree, genuine. Toby hums and starts walking around me to get to the doorway. He pats my shoulder as he passes, I turn around to follow him towards the door.
"Seriously," Toby pauses when he opens the door. "Get some sleep." He encourages. All I do is nod at him, already having the intention to do so the moment he leaves.
Toby turns away. I close the door behind him then turn around to go right up the stairs to get to bed. For real this time. Forty-two hours is enough.
I jump and scoff the moment I turn around. My hand comes to my chest to feel the rapid pumping of my heart.
"Fuck, Soph," I breathe, turning away from her.
She stands at the bottom of the stairs with her hair basically covering her face like the fucking girl from The Ring.
"Is he gone?"
I sigh deeply, still recovering. "Yeah. He's gone." I confirm. "Sorry. Did I wake you up?" I ask, dragging my hand down my face with a yawn.
"I think I woke myself up." Sophia mumbles as she comes closer. "I'm hungry."
I hum quietly. "What're you hungry for?" I push as I stretch my arm over my head like I'm just waking up too.
Sophia comes even closer and looks up at me with small smile, still sleepy but waking up. "Doughnuts."
My eyebrows raise. "Doughnuts?" I repeat. She quickly nods. I groan like I'm annoyed, it makes her laugh. "All right," I sigh. "Go get some shoes." I order, nudging her away from me.
Sophia laughs menacingly, having won with ease. I shake my head at her as she rushes up the stairs like she didn't wake up just now.
I yawn, squeezing my eyes shut when tears start forming at the corners of my eyes along with it.
I'll take a nap when we get back.
__________
My smile is soft and I stand by, watching Sophia bounce around as she points to the different doughnuts behind the glass.
The poor lady can hardly keep with with her requests.
She hits her twelve doughnut limit fairly quickly. I step forward to hand money over, glancing at Sophia who comes dangerously close to leaning against my arm.
