My head hurts.

I pinch my eyebrows together and grumble quietly as I force my eyes open, wondering where the hell I smacked my head at. Somewhere in the kitchen, maybe.

The more I wake up, the more I'm able to look around and confirm I'm in the kitchen. I'm on the ground, curled up with a pillow and a blanket. As well as with Sophia.

She's laying her head on my arm, curled up with the blanket from my bedroom. She's pressed up against me and one of my arms lazily rests on her.

She did that herself, I think. No sunlight pours into the room. It's nighttime. It's always in the middle of the night when you wake up before the sun does.

I suck in a quiet breath and will myself to start getting up. Sophia shifts around as I do. I freeze and hope I haven't woken her up but that hope dies when she rolls onto her back and looks up at me.

She gasps when she sees me awake and lifts herself up to give me a hug. Even though I'm confused, I hold myself up with one hand on the floor and hesitantly wrap one arm around her.

"You're alive!" She shouts, pulling away quickly to look up at me.

"Yeah..." I slowly answer. My head still pounds painfully. "Did you think I died?"

Sophia scoffs and pushes away from me, thumping her fist on my shoulder. "You died!" She declares. "You just collapsed."

I sit up more and rub the side of my head with a grimace. "Fuck, that explains the ache." I mumble. I'm bruised in one more spot.

"When was the last time you slept?" Sophia questions. She curls her legs under her and crosses her arms over her chest angrily.

I glance at the ceiling as I think. "At the hotel."

Sophia blinks at me. "The hotel, like, forever ago?" She asks. I offer a helpless shrug. "What is wrong with you?" Sophia asks. "Why haven't you slept?"

I shake my head. "I don't know." I grumble. I start moving around and struggle to get up off the ground. Sophia watches me closely, staring at me intently as I get up.

She stands up with me and holds her hands out like she'd be able to catch me if I fell again. I think her lack of being able to catch me is the reason my head hurts.

"How long have I been out?" I mumble, hanging onto the counter for support. She won't be much help.

Sophia thinks for a long moment. "I don't know. A day and a half, maybe?"

I blink at her. "A day and a half?"

"We got doughnuts the other day...I think."

"Fuck," I drag my hand down my face and glance around. The pot is still on the stove. It wasn't touched. "Are you okay?" I ask her.

Sophia nods. "I didn't want to cook because I'm not very good at it," She begins. "So, I finished all of the noodles."

"Just noodles?"

"It was either noodles or burning the cabin down."

I give my head a little shake and take a deep breath. "Okay," I accept it. There's nothing I can do about it now anyway. "What about your nightmares?" I ask, frowning at her. I wasn't awake to help her. For two days.

Sophia sinks a little. "Well, they haven't gone away." She honestly replies. "But it's okay." She offers a small smile. "I took this. I hope you don't mind." She offers me my knife.
