We need to get out of this town. I need to finish our business in here then go, with or without Sophia.
But I can't bring myself to do it. I have to ask her for something before I can start making plans. I can't do it.
I stand in the doorway of the bathroom, looking into the main part of our room while Sophia happily goes on to explain what she did today.
She's busy painting her nails with black nail polish, but talks to me while she does it. "I ran into a few people I went to school with but I don't think they saw me." Sophia explains on a hum. "But it was nice to creepily stalk them from afar."
How am I supposed to ask her to help me kill all her friends off when she's smiling and laughing while she tells me about her day?
I can't just ask her to be bait for me. To lure her friends out of their homes and into the warehouse.
Sophia looks over at me, flapping her hands around to dry her nails. "What's up?" She asks, tilting her head at me.
I tip my chin up at her. "Hm?"
Sophia smiles. "You're not really listening." She points out. I frown at that but can't really argue. "So, what's up? What're you thinking about?"
I hesitate to answer. "Be honest with me," I begin, pushing off the bathroom doorframe and coming a little closer.
Sophia stays on her bed, sitting crisscross and watching me come over to sit on the edge of my bed. "Sure." She agrees, slowly nodding.
"Are you afraid of me?"
Sophia's eyebrows bunch together in confusion, but she answers my question without hesitation. "Yes."
My eyes drop down from hers, down onto the bed as I give short nod. It was a stupid question, to be fair.
Of course she's afraid of me. I pinned her against a wall the other night. I'd be concerned if she wasn't afraid of me.
"Well—Sometimes." Sophia fixes her answer, speaking thoughtfully. I lift my eyes back to hers, she smiles at me. "Sometimes you freak me out," She admits with a shrug. "But not all the time."
I smile a little at that. "So, you're not afraid of me?"
"Not always." Sophia nods. "You're not scary to me right now." She offers, titling her head at me.
I nod and look down at my lap, smiling to myself. I can live with her being afraid only sometimes. Sometimes isn't all the time.
I still need to ask her something else though. The reminder makes me sigh and I look back at her. "Sophia," I dreadfully call, continuing the conversation on quickly.
She looks away to curl her knees to her chest, painting her toe nails now. "Mhm?" She absently murmurs.
I hesitate, watching her and letting her be peaceful for a few more moments. I shouldn't hesitate so much with her, but I do and I can't help it.
"I want to know if you're willing to do something for me."
"You want to use me to get them alone, don't you?" Sophia hums, not even glancing over at me. She keeps doing what she's doing, calm and practically careless.
