A/N: Hello! I have returned! I really enjoyed writing this chapter. The stakes are definitely getting more intense and you shall soon see why...
Before we continue on with the next instalment, thank yous are in order. I was astounded to see that The Break has reached 8K. I'm honestly so shocked and humbled. Thank you all for your support, it truly does mean a lot. I love reading your comments and the votes are so unexpected and well-received. So, thank you again!
This chapter does contain mentions of neglective parents and mild threat.

When Eddie first called out his usual cheesy greeting, he had not expected much of a reply, as he assumed you would be either resting from your ordeal or maybe even sleeping but when he called your name again and the trailer remained devoid of sound- not even a mouse stirring- he excused himself and left Chrissy in the kitchen, while he went to investigate the eerie silence. Finding both the sofa and bed devoid of your form, had the brunet both confused and alarmed. The bathroom was also unoccupied. With you only being able to hide in only so many places, within the compact home, he came to the conclusion that you were no longer on the premises. Hearing his guest call out his name, Eddie was quick to rejoin her in the kitchen, where she held out a hastily scrawled note, that was undoubtedly your handwriting.
His eyes scanned the paper, instantly feeling a little less worried. Though not entirely placated, it was clear that you had gone for a wander to clear your head. Being alone in the trailer had left you feeling stifled and you had needed some fresh air. Eddie felt a pang of emotion, as he continued to read your subsequent apology for any worry your note would cause him but did your best to reassure the brunet that, you would be home soon. You had even signed the note with a smiley face, which amused him.
Glad that you were somewhat okay- though a bit overwhelmed- Eddie was reassured to know that you would be back soon. "Um, Y/N has gone out for a bit. So, uh, d'you mind just helping me put their food on a plate. I'll microwave it for them when they get back." he explained, folding the note and storing it in his pocket. "We can watch a movie, while we eat and wait for them, if you like?"
Chrissy had no objections to his suggestion. If Eddie was not concerned about your absence, then she would not be either. As he had mentioned in the car, you had gone through a struggle today and needed some space. Something the blonde could highly relate to herself. Was she not doing the exact same thing, just by standing in your shared trailer, about to eat food that would make her Mom weep if she knew, instead of being locked in her room? "Yeah, sure. That'll be a nice treat for them to have, when they get home. How about I deal with the food and you choose a movie for us the watch, until they get back?" she offered, her stomach already rumbling with hunger at the prospect of the burger and fries that awaited her.
After hearing from Eddie about your plans to save up money to leave Hawkins, Chrissy had not hesitated to pay for your meals. She was not blind to her family's wealth and knew she was well off in comparison to you both. If her covering the cost, allowed you to keep your savings intact and meant Eddie could surprise you with a well deserved treat, then Chrissy would have paid over and over again. It felt good to be spending her parent's wealth on two people, who genuinely deserved something nice and not on her so-called-friends, who used their allowances as a way to flaunt what they had to those who did not.
While Chrissy and Eddie busied themselves with food wrappers and VCR tapes, you were none the wiser to the visitor in your home. Far from the comforts of the trailer, you kicked a nearby pebble along the dirt road, scuffing your already worn shoes as you did. It was a long walk back but you paid the distance no mind. You would have walked for miles more, if it meant leaving your unpleasant thoughts and memories behind but you knew, you would eventually stray back. You could not leave without Eddie- not that you had anywhere to really runaway to. After everything he had so selflessly done for you, you owed it to him to keep yourself safe and return to the trailer in one piece. You hoped he had received your note and was not figuratively and literally pulling out his long locks.
