" Kate, we may have to stay in this building all night. " You said before sighting heavily " Don't you think we could finally have a conversation ? You know, they way normal people do ? "

" What makes you think I'd like to have a conversation with you huh ? " The brunette answered with an aggressive voice.
" Seriously Y/n, just shut up and focus. You're going to mess up the mission again ! "

You opened your mouth to protest but ended up deciding against it.

It was completely pointless anyway. For a reason you couldn't understand Kate hated you and nothing you said seemed to make it better.

You had already tried multiples times to fix your relationship because you believed partners needed to be close to each other...

However, the brunette didn't want any of that. She kept on pushing you away, remaining silent in your presence or getting angry at you for no reason.

Yelena kept on telling you to be patient with your partner but you were getting tired of Kate's mood swings and mean comments.

Regardless of why she was acting like this, she didn't have the right to take her anger or whatever it was that was bothering her on you.

You were still lost in your thoughts when a group of at least five men entered the room.

Shit. This wasn't supposed to happen. Your and Kate's job tonight was only to watch the surroundings to prepare a more important mission.

The building you were in was in theory abandoned and should have remained empty.

Fighting had never been part of the plan, especially since you and your partner were clearly outnumbered.

You glanced at Kate who gave you a small nod before attacking the first man on your right.

You and the brunette were not best friend but you completed each other pretty well when it came to fight together.

With her bow and arrows, Kate could strike more precisely and further than you while you handled hand-to-hand combat better.

The efficiency of your team once again allowed you to take down all the men in less than ten minutes.

Or at least that's what you thought until one of them surprisingly got back on his feet.

You saw the grenade before Kate. Saw it leave the man's hand aiming right at the both you.

And without thinking, you jumped on your partner and shielded her with your body. (Yeah I know it should have killed us but there is no story if we're dead right ?)

Your ears were ringing and you felt like...like a building had just collapsed on your body.

Which was exactly what had happened.

Your eyelids were too heavy to allow you to open your eyes but you could hear someone talking to you.

It was funny because the voice reassuring you with sweet words and begging you to hold on looked a lot like Kate's.

Except it wasn't possible since your partner hated your guts.

You had no idea if you were going to die or not but if you were, the brunette would probably enjoy dancing on your grave.

" It hurts. " You managed to whisper with your eyes still close. " I don't wanna go but it hurts so bad..."

" Shhh, don't try to talk. " The soft voice spoke again, applying pressure on your wounds. " You need to save your strenghs. And don't you dare give up now Y/n okay ? You're going to live ! "

The words helped you remaining conscious just long enough to hear a jet land next to you.

Then, you let the darkness swallow you all.
