'Throw.' Isla says.
I take her ball from her hands and she runs about 30 cm away from me. She holds out her hands in front of her as if she's expecting me to just drop it into her hands.
'Go further back.' I tell her, as the doorbell sounds.
I watch as Rosa sucurries past the living room towards the front door.
'Who is it?' I shout at her, whilst throwing the ball into the air for Isla to catch.
The ball lands at her feet, and she looks down at it, as if she's expecting it to float up and land in her still outstretched hands.
When Rosa doesn't reply to my call, I can only assume she's been shot dead or has been rendered speechless by the devil's right hand man- an evil, oddly handsome troll named Diego.
If I'm being honest, I think it's the troll.
And if it his him, he's broken a rule... one day after I made them.
One.
Day.
Isla hands me the ball and runs back to her position, but I'm a bit too worried about Rosa's wellbeing to play with her right now.
I get up and walk into the hallway. 'Who is it Rosa?' I ask again.
She shifts and opens the door wider for me to see Diego leaning against the door frame with a smirk plastered on his face.
'Sup.' He say with a salute.
I glare at him, just as Isla comes up next to me and wraps her arms around my legs.
'Isla you're ruining my menacing stance.' I whisper to her.
She looks up at me. 'Sorry.'
She lets go and turns to face the front door.
'Hospital man.' Isla says pointing at Diego.
'That's not my name.' He says, shaking his head.
She gasps, like she didn't know he could speak.
He raises an eyebrow at her and then looks at me. 'Can I come in?' He asks.
'Are you a vampire?' I say. 'You don't need to be invited in.'
'I was just being polite.' He says as he begins to come through the doorway.
'Stop.' Isla says holding her hand to stop him.
He looks down at her confused. 'Why?'
'Stranger. Danger.' She says.
I laugh. 'I guess you can't come in.'
He sighs and bends down so he's eye level with Isla.
He holds out his hand for her to shake. 'My name's Diego, what's yours?'
She stares at him, then his hand, then back at him.
Then she reaches out and puts her hand in his. 'I'm Isla.' She says.
Diego shakes her hand. 'It's nice to meet you.' He says.
'Yes.' She says in return.
'How old are you?'
'Nearly one.' She says proudly.
He raises his eyebrows in surprise. 'Really, you're pretty grown up then.'
She nods. 'Yes, I am.'
Maybe he's not such a troll...
'Are we still strangers then?'
She shakes her head. 'No.'
She turns to look at me, with a great big grin, and then gives me a double thumbs up.
She runs off back to the living room and Rosa follows her.
'You've broken two rules already.' I say, crossing my arms across my chest.
He comes to stand in front of me. 'Rules?'
'You know, the rules I made literally yesterday.'
He shrugs. 'I told you I wouldn't remember them.'
I glare at him and he comes closer to me.
He leans in. 'Am I breaking one of your rules now?' He whispers.
Well he's not touching me...
Or kissing me
'No.' I reply
He leans in closer, as if he's going to kiss me.
If he was going to kiss me, I would stop him.
No wait, I wouldn't.
No I would.
No... who the fuck am I kidding, of course I wouldn't stop him.
'Is this breaking one of your rules?" He whispers, his lips brushing against mine.
I'm almost certain that he can feel the vibrations of my heart hitting my chest.
'No.' I whisper in return.
He stays silent for a second before pulling back and leaning against the banister.
'I'm here for my shirt back.' He says.
I turn around to face him. 'I could've brought it for you.'
He shrugs. 'Yeah well, I thought I'd save you the trip.'
I give him a look.
Seriously, he needs to hurry up and die.
'Show me where it is then.' He says tilting his head in the direction of my bedroom.
I sigh heavily, and walk up the stairs.
Diego follows and stops at the doorway, while I get his shirt.
'Isla looks like you.' He says as I hand him the shirt.
'Does she?'
'Yeah,' His eyes scan my face. 'Same eyes.'
'Hmm.'
He's got that silly look on his face again and he's twisting the shirt around in his hand like he's deep in thought.
Then, all of a sudden, he leans in and presses a kiss against my lips.
He pushes my back against the door frame and works his hand down my body.
Then he pulls away and braces his forehead against mine.
He takes a deep breath. 'I'll see you soon.' He whispers.
He's leaving.
He kisses me again, and I don't stop him.
He's not leaving.
I bring my hand around his neck, pulling him in, as the kiss deepens.
He slides his hand around my waist, pulling my body into his.
This is going too far.
I need him to leave.
I pull back. 'I'll see you soon.' I whisper breathlessly.
He smirks, steps back and leaves.
I lean back against the doorframe.
That's the third rule broken.
