Diego taps his hands on the steering wheel in a regular rhythm. It's almost like he's tapping out the beat to a song.
If it is a song, it's a little bit too upbeat for the mood in this car.
I let out a loud sigh, and cross my arms across my chest.
He glances at me, takes a deep breath in, and then lets out a loud sigh.
I turn in my seat and glare at him.
He smirks. 'What?'
I roll my eyes and turn back to face the car window.
He taps out his song again, shifts in his seat and then says, 'I think you took what I said the wrong way.'
'What? What you said about Seb?'
He shrugs, 'Yeah, what else?'
'Everything else that's escaped your mouth.'
He rolls his eyes. 'Alexis, I'm apologising.'
'Are you? I didn't hear a sorry.'
'You're so fucking difficult.' He mutters, reaching forward and turning on the radio.
I reach forward and turn it off. 'Why would you say that you're better for me anyway. What do you know about Seb that I don't?'
He taps out the song again, then stops. 'What do I know about your dead boyfriend?... Nothing you don't.' He lets out a breath. 'I never met him.'
'Don't lie.' I say.
'I'm not.'
'You are.'
He tightens his grip on the steering wheel. 'I've never talked to him in my life. Leave me alone.'
'We're in the same car, I can't leave you alone. And stop avoiding the question, you don't have to have talked to him to know things about him.'
He crosses and uncrosses his fingers.
'Diego.'
'What? I don't know anything, how many times do I have to tell you.' He replies.
He's lying.
'Fine.' I say, turning to look out the window.
'Alexis, what do you want me to say?' He asks.
'Nothing.' I mutter.
'Don't be mad.'
'I'm not.'
I feel the car stop, and I look outside to see that we're right by the river. The whole bank is covered in trees, and there's not another person in sight.
I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to drown me again.
'Alexis, look at me.' He says softly.
When I ignore him, I feel his hand come under my chin and turn my head towards him.
He brushes my hair out of my face.
Then he comes closer and presses a soft kiss against my lips.
'At least I'm not the one forcing you to fall in love with me.' He whispers against my lips.
He kisses me again, and again, and again...
'What?' I whisper in return.
'Nothing.'
'Diego.' I say, breathlessly, as his hand slides down to my waist.
I let him kiss me again.
I let him pull me onto his lap.
I let him unzip my dress.
We're down to our underwear, before I stop him.
'Diego what do you mean forced?' I ask him quietly, as his hands unbuckle my bra.
'Maybe you should have a look on his phone.' He replies, meeting my eye. 'You might find what you're looking for there.'
Should I be more worried about how Diego knows I'll find bad things on Seb's phone or what I'll find out about Seb?
Diego kisses me. 'Worry about it later.' He whispers.
'Diego, take me home.' I say, pushing myself off his lap.
He holds me by my waist, so I can't move.
'Alexis?' He says, looking at me confused.
'Diego, why would you think that?'
'Think what?'
'That Seb forced me to love him.'
He shrugs. 'People say things, everyone knows that.'
'Knows?'
'Have a look on his phone Alexis.' Diego says, brushing off the subject.
'Why, what's on his phone?'
'I don't know, have a look.' He says.
I narrow my eyes, and he narrows his.
'What are you accusing me of Alexis?' He asks.
I push his hands off my waist and sit in the passenger seat. 'Take me home Diego.'
