'Do you think there are worms in these?' Axcel asks, from behind me.
'I don't know.' I say, as I weave my way through the trees.
I hear him crunch into the apple. 'It's actually quite nice.' He says.
I hear him bite into it once more, and I roll my eyes.
'Axcel, can you bite into that apple quietly?'
'Mmmh.' He hums in response.
Diego's apple orchard is actually quite nice.
And so is his house.
I stop just before the backdoors, and watch as a man shuffles across the kitchen, and disappears through a door.
He doesn't look all that old, but he walks like he is, with his back hunched, head down, careful steps.
'Why have you stopped?' Axcel asks, coming up next to me.
I look at him and watch him discard his apple core in grass.
'No reason.' I reply.
'Okay.' He says, taking the lead and walking around the house towards the front door.
Axcel knocks, but no one replies.
He turns to me. 'Do you think he died, in the time it took us to walk around the house?'
I give him a look, and push him out the way.
I knock lightly on the door, and then wait. 'Sir?' I call out.
I get no reply.
'Sir, I'm Alexis.' I take a deep breath. 'I'm your son's girlfriend.'
'You're Diego's what?' Axcel asks beside me.
I shush him, and then continue. 'I'm just here to talk-' I start, as the door cracks open.
A face appears in the crack.
'You're Diego's girlfriend?' He asks tentatively.
I nod. 'Yeah.'
'Where's Diego?' He asks.
'He's busy.' I say.
He stands there in silence, as he tries to figure me out.
'Mr Astalis, I just want to talk.' I say.
He nods slowly, and opens the door wider.
He turns and walks down the hall, disappearing through a door. 'Shut the door.' He calls out behind him.
We trek through the house, and follow him into a sitting room.
He's sat there with glasses on, and a newspaper in hand.
