Chapter fourteen- dealing with the press

1 month later
KATNISS POV
Peeta and I are taking Rye for his second check up. We get into the car and are about to leave when Peeta sees the paparazzi surrounding our car. Peeta honks the horn to tell them to move, but they don't. The flash from their cameras is blinding.
"Just go, they'll learn the hard way to not stand in front of our car" I say
"I'm not gonna run them over katniss" peeta replies
"Well, we're gonna be late" I reply annoyed
We sit there for 10 minutes before peeta finally takes my suggestion and starts driving. The paparazzi jump out of the way. "Told you so" I say
Peeta just shakes his head.

*AT THE DOCTORS OFFICE*
KATNISS POV
The doctor takes Rye's vitals, and asks us some questions.
"How is he sleeping?" The doctor asks
"He sleeps good throughout the night. Only wakes up about once every other day in the middle of the night." Peeta replies. I nod my head, agreeing with Peeta.
"And how is he eating?" The doctor asks
"Good. I feed him about 4-5 times a day." I say
"And how much does he drink per feeding session?" The doctor continues
"I'd say about 6-8 oz's depending on which feeding session it is" I reply
"Okay. And what time do these feeding sessions occur?" The doctor asks
"Um, shortly after he wakes up, usually after we change his diaper. He usually wakes up around 9 am. He usually drinks 8 oz's. I feed him again at a/round 2 pm. Shortly before his nap. He usually drinks 4 oz. And then he falls asleep. He wakes up at around 3:30 pm. I then feed him around 5:30 pm, which he usually drinks 6 oz's. And then if he's fussy around bed time and his diaper is clean, and he's not responding to his pacifier, I'll usually feed him and he usually drinks about 4-5 oz's, and then falls asleep." I reply
"Okay. My recommendation would be to stop feeding him before his nap, and instead feed him after his nap. I would wait until maybe 9:00 to feed him instead. And if necessary, I would only feed him maybe 4 oz before his nap, only if necessary. I would continue to feed him around 6:30 pm. And then what time is bed time?" The doctor asks
"Around 8-8:30 pm" peeta says
"Okay, I would feed him maybe 6-8 oz's then, as long as he drinks 4 oz's he should be good. Don't want to over feed him." The doctor says
"Are we over feeding him now?" I ask, worried
"No no, it's just he will start eating soft foods soon, and I don't want him to be fully reliant on milk at all meals. Once he starts eating soft foods, I would feed him soft food before his nap. And then before bed or for dinner. As long as he eats soft foods twice a day, and gets milk twice a day. This is when he starts eating soft food. He isn't necessarily there yet." The doctor replies.
"Okay, anything else?" Peeta asks
"Nope, he sounds and looks healthy. He's gaining weight at a regular pace, and is at a healthy weight. He's growing at an average pace. He responds well. He's sleeping well, and eating well. So everything looks good. I would schedule an appointment to finish his second rounds of vaccinations" the doctor says.
"Okay, we'll do that on our way out." I say.
"Okay, see you in a few months then." The doctor replies and walks out.
Peeta and I walk out shortly after. Peeta goes up to the front desk to make an appointment for Rye's second round of vaccinations. I look around and see people taking pictures. I feel rage at this.
"Stop taking pictures, and mind your business!" I yell. Scaring everyone around me. They quickly put their phones away.
Peeta and I leave shortly after.
"His appointment is next week." Peeta says as we walk out.
"Okay." I say sharply, still upset.
"Are you okay?" Peeta asks, concern written on his face.
"No I'm not! I don't want our kid growing up in the spotlight, those people had *no* concern for our privacy! It's infuriating!" I rant
"I agree, but what can we do? We started a rebellion and are the first ever 2 victors in the same district in the same game, of course people are going to want to know us and what's happening. We freed people from dictatorship." Peeta replies
"I know, but to surround our car taking pictures with our *infant* child in the car?" I reply, "it's crazy"
Peeta nods sympathetically.
"Effie called the other day. I forgot to tell you." Peeta says
"What did she say?" I ask
"She wants us to do in interview in the capitol." Peeta says
"Who would watch Rye?" I ask
"She wants us to do an interview *with* Rye. Show him to the country, update people on how we feel about being parents, especially since we said we weren't gonna have any kids soon" peeta said
"Absolutely not. Rye isn't some show pony for everyone to gawk at. It's none of their business." I say.
"I agree, but since we said we weren't having kids soon, and then you got pregnant shortly after, people have questions." Peeta says
"About what? Don't they know how kids are made?" I ask, sarcastically.
Peeta chuckles, "I think they want to know our thoughts about becoming parents when we weren't planning on having kids soon. And since we don't have social media, people are dying to know what gender our baby is, what our baby's name is, if we're planning on having any more kids. 'Stupid' stuff like that." Peeta continues.
I sigh. "Maybe."
The rest of the ride home is silent. People are by our house, probably trying to see our baby.
Peeta parks the car in the garage. We close the garage door before I take Rye out of his car seat.
I put Rye in his play pen. And walk into the kitchen.
"What do you think about the interview?" I ask peeta.
"I don't know, I'm indifferent to it. If you want to do it, fine by me. If you don't, that's also fine by me." He replies.
I leave the conversation there and walk into the living room. I sit down on the couch and turn on the tv. Rye is babbling, which makes me smile.

A/N: in this story, social media *is* a thing. I also think I'm gonna add planes/jets/flying. Instead of just trains/cars as a way to get around the districts. I added cars as a means of transportation around the districts/towns.
