Karl sat on his bed with his mother opposite him. They had only just gotten to his dorm and his mother insisted on Karl locking the door, which made him incredibly anxious. He looked up to meet her eyes and thats when she let out a loud sigh, and then begun talking.

"I love you Karl, i really do." She begun with a slow nod. "And if you really think you're a.. homosexual.. Then I will try and support you, son." Karl's mouth hung slightly agape at his mothers words, he didn't expect this. "I feel like your father had an impact on my opinion for everything, and that included you."

"I'm sorry for not kicking him out sooner, I love you." She said, holding up Karl's hand and kissing his knuckle.
"Mother I-I love you too." Karl muttered back, as he could feel his eyes begin to water. "I'm just glad you've escaped, finally. You deserve better." The younger nodded as he spoke with true admiration.

"And yeah, I am gay. And i hope you can learn to support me, and also learn to love Sapnap just as much as I do. He's a great guy, I need you to believe that if nothing else." Karl whispered, breaking eye contact and looking down at the bedsheets he was siting on, bringing a hand up to his face and quickly wiping his eye.
"I believe you Karl, I believe all of it. And Sapnap seems sweet, i'd love to get to know him more. One day, i hope i'm the 100% supportive parent you deserve, but i know right now i can't be that. I need time, Karl." His mother seemed so fragile and stressed while she spoke, it broke Karls heart.

He knew she had been through so much recently, she didn't deserve any of it. Nobody should be in a marriage with no love, nobody should be mentally abused for years by their partner, nobody should ever be manipulated by someone they trusted. Nobody at all.

Karl nodded after awhile, as he understood what she was saying. It was fine that she'd need time, Karl accepted that. He just hoped that soon enough she'd come around and get to know Sapnap because he meant so much to Karl.
"Well, I won't keep you." His mother forced a chuckle, but Karl didn't laugh. "You should go back to class."
"Just like that? What about dad? Where is he living now? I need to know these things, mother, I deserve to know." Karl stated, finally standing up for himself against a parent, for once.

His mother sighed, "You're right." She then begun telling Karl everything.

"I told him I wanted divorce last week, and he only agreed to it yesterday. Before then, he wasn't too happy about my decision. He shouted for days without stopping and I couldn't stand it so I left the house and stayed at a hotel for a few days.

Eventually, your father rang me and he claimed to have found someone 'better' to which I scoffed and told him to sign the divorce papers I would be sending his way. I think I handled him well, and then soon enough he signed them. Then I got a text from my lawyer saying he had moved out to go live with the other woman, and that it was safe for me to go move back into my home. Since then, me and him have lost contact, and just like that our lifelong relationship was over."

Karl didn't respond for a few moments, he couldn't. He couldn't stop thinking about how much he hated his father for not only abusing him, but also treating his mother this way.
"Listen to me, mom. There is no woman in the world better than you, he's just trying to make you feel like your replaceable, but I guarantee he is just forcing a connection with that lady, i almost feel bad for her." Karl responded at last, and his mother laughed at the last bit. The smile lingered on her face as she pulled her son into a hug, a hug that Karl never expected to happen.

"I love you." His mother said once agin, and Karl instantly said it back. He was so happy in this moment.
"Are you leaving now? Maybe you could stay for a bit? Meet my friends, get to know Sapnap...?" Karl suggested.
"I can't hunny, i've got so much stuff at home to sort out, but I do have one question."
"Anything."

"Are you and Sapnap... boyfriends?"

And Karl instantly went pink at the words coming from his mother. He felt so awkward, yet so happy to finally be able to tell her.
"Yes, yes he's my boyfriend." Karl confirmed with a large grin on his face. His mother nodded with a gentle smile, but didn't respond. But that smile was enough hope for Karl. Maybe, she was a good mother after all.
