Rory, two weeks before
"Aurora! Can you come down here please!" I close my laptop and walk down the stairs. I see Lori standing at the counter, leaning over something.
"Lori?" Her head looks up at me, I see tears running down her face and I get worried. "Lori, what's wrong?" I walk further into the kitchen.
"What's this?" What is she talking about? I walk closer and see what she's looking at.
Where'd she get that?!
"Did you go through my room!" Well now I was pissed, she had to of. How else would she have gotten the test?
"No, I didn't go through your room! I went to put towels in your bathroom and it was behind the toilet." Fuck, I thought I got them all.
"Lori, I-" I tried to form a sentence but nothing came out. She put her hand up to stop me.
"I don't want to hear your excuses! How could you be so irresponsible? Especially at a time like this!"
"I didn't mean to!"
"How hard is it to wear a condom!?"
"I thought he put one on! I was drinking, I couldn't tell the difference!" I lied. She took a couple of breaths before continuing.
"How far along are you?"
"I don't know, I haven't made an appointment to see yet."
"I'll call and see when the earliest opening is." We both hear the garage door open and close. Lori goes to hide the test but I place my hand over hers, stopping her movements.
"No point, he'll figure it out at some point. Better to just tell him." We look at each other and I put my head down. She grips my hand and I look at her.
"I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed." Well, fuck me. That just broke my heart into a million fucking pieces. Shane walks in and takes note of the tension in the room.
"What's going on?" He grabs a soda from the fridge. Lori uses her free hand and motions to the test that still sat on the counter. He puts his gaze to the test and looks at it for a couple of minutes.
"Lori..." He thought it was hers. She looks at me then back to him and shakes her head. He thinks for a couple of seconds and his face drops in realization.
"Rory... please say this is some sick prank." I stayed quiet, tears brimmed my eyes. God, I wish it was some kind of sick joke. I still thought I was in a nightmare and I would wake up any second.
"I have no words." He rubs his forehead before placing it in his hands.
"I'm not getting rid of it." They both shake their heads.
"We don't expect you to, but we also didn't expect this." Lori plays with the end of her hair.
"I know, I didn't expect it either." I pull my hands away from Lori. "I think I'm going to lie down." I walk away from the two and up to my bedroom.

a week before
"Aurora Grimes." I and Lori stand up at the sound of my name being called. We both follow the nurse to the room.
"The doctor will be with you shortly." I get up on the bed, listening as the paper crumbles under me. There was an ultrasound machine next to me on my left. Lori sat on my right.
I nervously played with my jacket. A knock brought me from my thoughts and a lady doctor walks in.
"Aurora?" She looks at me and I nod. "Great! Nice to meet you. I'm Doctor Yang." She sits down at the computer and logs into it.
"Well let's get started, obviously you're here because you're pregnant." She states what we already know. "So, I just need to know if you have any allergies, on any meds, or if you have any concerns. Please don't be afraid to ask." I nod.
"I'm not currently on any meds, and I know I'm not allergic to anything." I sigh and look back at Lori. She gives me a sympathetic look.
"I'm only 16." Dr. Yang finishes what she was typing before turning to me.
"Believe it or not, but I get a lot of teen moms in here. Nothing to worry about hon, judgment-free place."
"I'm just worried about...everything."
"I get that, you're body goes through some major changes. Your feet will swell, your boobs will grow, your back will hurt, and you'll crave certain things. A big one is sickness. You can have morning sickness, or a certain smell will make you sick. But, you'll be ok." She gets up from her chair and puts on a pair of gloves.
"And, if birth is a problem, don't worry. you're young and seem to take good care of yourself. Drink lots of water, use heating pads, stuff like that." She comes over to the ultrasound machine.
"A support system is good too." She looks up at Lori. "Mother?"
"Sister-in-law." She corrects.
"Ok Aurora, are you ready to see your baby?" I nod eagerly, wanting to see him or her. I lay back on the table and she lifts my shirt. I notice a little bump, at first I thought I was just eating too much junk food. I gasp and she places a cold gel on my stomach. She takes this wand thing and starts to rub it around my stomach.
"You look to be around 11 to 12 weeks. Are you ready to hear a heartbeat?"
"Yes!" She turns a little switch on the machine and the sounds of a little heartbeat fill the room. I look over at Lori, already to see her crying.
"Hold on..." I turn my head back to Dr.
Yang, she was looking at the machine with a weird look. I bite my lip as her eyes widen.
"Is everything ok, is my baby ok?"
"Everything is perfect Aurora. I thought I had seen something, and I did. Aurora you're pregnant with twins." I felt my heart drop. I was scared about one, but now there are two.
"Do you want some sonogram pictures?" I nod my head, yes and she starts to print them.
"So since you're with twins, a lot of women get induced at eight months, because sometimes it can be riskier for older women, but as I said, you're healthy and young. So I think you'll be ok to carry to full term." She hands me the pictures. I hand them off to Lori, and she puts them in her wallet.
"I also think you'll deliver them vaginally with no problems. I'm going to prescribe you some prenatal vitamins, just to give you and the babies some extra support." She hands me a prescription paper.
"If you have any questions, feel free to ask, if not you're free to go." I look back at Lori, to see if she wanted to ask any questions. She shook her head.
"I don't have any questions." Dr. Yang gave me a soft smile.
"Alright Aurora, I wanna see you back here in two weeks. You can make an appointment up at the front. Have a good day." She grabs my folder before leaving the room. I slowly pull myself off the bed. Me and Lori leave the room without saying anything to each other. It was like that the rest of the way home.
leave feedback, anything helps.
I don't know much about this stuff, so don't take my word for it
