Rory

I blink a couple of times, trying to get rid of my tiredness. I lay my head against the headrest of the truck Maggie and Glenn had got. It had been a long day and I was ready to see Evie and Ellie, then go to bed.

I rubbed my eyes as we pulled into to the driveway, grabbing my heavy bag that was full of cans and went to the house.

"Hello my babies, I missed you my loves." I took the twins from Beth, hugging them softly and kissing their heads. I yawn and throw my head back.

"Are you guys hungry? Mama found some formula today." I talk to them, going to the kitchen. Lori sat at the table with Carl.

"Will you hold them for me, while I make their bottles?"

"Of course!" Carl smiles, taking Everest from my hands. Lori holds Elowen and I go to the cabinet. I take the cans of food I shoved in the bag and set them in there.

I grab a can of formula and bottle of water, quickly making them a bottle. I slump down at the table, taking the twins back in my arms I start to feed them.

"I don't know what's wrong, I'm just so tired." U shake my head, maneuvering the bottles so the girls didn't get any air bubbles.

"You've been working yourself hard lately Rory. The twins are only three weeks, they need you here." I look down, seeing the green eyes they inherited from their father.

I hope he dies a slow and painful death.

"I know, it's been hard. Being cooped up in the house. Just needed to get out." I shake my head.

"I understand, it's hard. It's really hard to stay here." I nod in agreement.

"I was thinking we should go soon. I mean we cleaned out the town, no point in staying here." I set the bottles aside as they go empty. I pick up Ellie, putting her over my shoulder and burping her. When I was done with her, I did the same with Everest.

"But it's so cold outside." Carl spoke up.

"The truck, Maggie and Glenn got, its heat still works, I can ride in that." I move them to where their heads were in the folds of my arms, their feet kicking at each other. "We won't make it through the winter if we stay here." I let out a sigh.

"I think we should bring it up with the group. It's something we do need to discuss." I nodded in agreement.

"I think I'm gonna turn in." I stand up, bidding Carl and Lori a good night. I make my way to the bed in the corner.

"I'm taking night watch." Daryl came over just as I sat down. I nod, deciding to have the twins sleep next to me. I quickly clear a space, so you know, they don't suffocate.

I lay them next to each other, placing a small blanket over the two. I lay on my side and watch them sleep.

I never knew my love for them would be this big.

But Lori was right, since they were born all I've tried to do was run. U need to be here for them, I'm their mother. Their protecter. I have to do everything in my power to make sure they're ok.

I place my hand between them, feeling both their little hands. I smile to myself and let sleep take over me.

Daryl pov

She slept peacefully, next to Evie and Ellie. Their chests rose and then fell with each little breath they took. They looked so much like their mother, but at the same time I could see the features they got from their father.

I still think back to that night, when she told me. I laid in my tent, anger coursing through my veins. She didn't deserve that, not one bit.

Not only did she have the trauma from it, she has the two little reminders of what happened that night. I knew she loved them, u could see it in her eyes each time she looked at them.

She looked exhausted. She was working herself more, trying to get out of the house. Black circles formed under her eyes, her lips became more and more chapped, she was losing a lot of weight also.

Not just the baby weight, but the weight she needed to survive. She was skin and bones. But was still as beautiful as ever.

"Daryl," she opened her eyes, looking at me tiredly. "I thought you were on night watch?"

"I was, T took over for me." I laid back in my chair, ready to sleep there for the night.

"Come lay with me? Please." she had closed her eyes once more, moving closer to the twins. She created a space for me between her and the wall. I bit my lip nervously.

"Please. I'm cold." That's all it took for me to climb in behind her, I wrapped my arm around her waist, putting the other one under my head.

"Thank you. For everything." She whispered. I could tell she was still asleep, by the tone of her voice, the way she talked.

"No problem Rory."

"I think I like you, like like you." I let out a tiny laugh.

"I know, you kissed me remember."

"Oh yeah, do you like me back?" She had a lazy smile on her face.

I heisted for a second before speaking. "Yeah, I like you back."

"Good." She was quiet after that. She fell back asleep. I smile and close my eyes, suddenly tired.

I let myself fall asleep with her, with Evie and Ellie.
