Rory
I stared at my brother in disbelief. Why did he wait till now to say something? How did he know this?
"At the CDC, Jenner told me," Rick looked to the ground. "Whatever it is, we all carry it."
"And you didn't think to tell us?" Carol asked, I could hear the anger in her voice. from the corner of my eye, I watched as Daryl walked off.
"Would it have made a difference?" Uh, yeah probably dude.
"Let's just find somewhere to stay please?" I asked. We all decided to drop the topic and start to look for somewhere to sleep.
Glenn and Maggie found a place, off the road a little way. Daryl had found some firewood, and now we all sat huddled together by the small flame.
I watched as Rick paced back and forth. Carol leaned in closer to Daryl. "We're not safe with him." She whispered, but I still heard. I looked away and rolled my eyes.
"Keeping something like that from us! You don't need him, he'll just pull you down." Daryl shook his head.
"Rick's done alright by me." I scooted a little closer to him, trying to get more warmth.
"You're his henchmen and I'm a burden." She scoffed and put her hands over the fire.
"What do you want?" He wrapped an arm around me and pulled me closer. I closed my eyes and kept listening to the argument go down.
"A man of honor."
"Rick has honor." Damn right he does.
Carol laughed to herself before leaving. I heard Daryl let out a sigh of relief. I snuggled into him more, laying my head on his chest. it was quiet for a little while, until we all heard shuffling.
"Do something!" Carol demanded, I rolled my eyes at her. Her yelling was just going to attract more of what was out there.
"I am doing something!" He snapped "I'm keeping this group together! Alive! I've been doing that all this time! I didn't ask for this! Did I? I killed my best friend for you people!" We all stopped and looked at him.
Rick killed shane?
I looked up at Daryl with a worried look.
Rick killed Shane.
"You saw what he was like! How he kept pushing me, how he had compromised us,
threatened us. He staged the whole Randall thing, tried to lead me away just to put a bullet in my back." I gasp a little. Shane tried to kill Rick."I had no choice, he was my friend. But he came after me, after my family. My hands are clean." He kept going. "Maybe y'all are better off without me. Go ahead. I think there's a place for us, but maybe it's just a pipe dream." He shrugged.
"Maybe I'm just fooling myself again. Why don't y'all go see for yourself, find out for yourself? Go on! There's the door, send me a postcard. See if you can do better, go on!" He waved off. No one said anything, we all sat in silence. The crickets chirped around us.
"No takers? that's fine. But we gotta get this straight, if you're staying. This ain't a democracy anymore." He said firmly. He looked around and we all agreed. That's when he sat down next to Carl and Lori. I let myself fall asleep on Daryl.
When I woke up, the sun was just above the trees. The nights were cold, but the days weren't bad. I wiped a sweat bead away as I tore off Rick's jacket and the extra pair of sweat pants.
"Is Rick gone?" I ask, Lori nodded her head.
"Him and Daryl went out this morning, could be back any time." I didn't say anything. I just sat and waited for them to come back.
"We got some food." Rick announced as they walked into the small camp.
"Found some gas too." Daryl added on, setting down his crossbow and sitting next to me.
"We eat, and then head out."
"Shouldn't we make a game plan?" I ask, catching the attention of everyone. "We can't keep going blindly." I opened the top of the can, shoving a piece of orange in my mouth.
"She's right, Rick. She's gonna give birth soon. Winter is coming fast, we gotta find somewhere. At least until she has the babies, that will give us time to figure out things." Lori said. Rick looked to Daryl.
"We found this house in town, it's small, but it looks stable. We cleared it out."
"That's great! That gives us a little more shelter, and we can make a plan." Carol said happily.
"Well, let's head out." I quickly finished the can of food before throwing somewhere. I grip my clothing pieces and made my way to the car.
The drive to the house wasn't even 5 minutes. It was a nice sized house. The paint was peeling off the sides of it, the door looked rough.
"Home sweet home." I joked, looking it up and down.
"Home sweet home." Rick said back to me. We all went inside, the inside looked a lot better then the outside. In the living room the couches and chairs still sat there, and there was a fire place.
"Wow, this is nice." I run my finger over the wall, the dust coming off.
"The best we can do right now." Rick shrugged.
"No arguing that." I sat down on a couch. I sigh as I sink into the comfortable material.
"Daryl, keep watch of the back door, I got the front." Rick ordered. Daryl nodded, looking at me.
"I'm ok." I tell him with a small smile, he nods before grabbing his crossbow and going to the back.
"We should bring stuff in." Lori says, looking around.
"Can't, I'm pregnant."
"I'm pregnant too." Oh yeah, she was.
"Then sit down, let the men do the hard work." I wave her off, snuggling into the couch more.
I listened as they brought things in, placing them down around the living room. I blinked a couple of times, feeling tired. I didn't need to sleep right now, when I just woke up not even an hour ago.
I got bored, so I decided to go and look around the house.
"Rick, I'm going to look around. See if I can find anything." I told him before walking off. I walked around trying to find anything useful or time consuming.
"Oh fuck yeah!" I pick up the bucket of board games.
"Carl! Look what I found!" I walked down the stairs, being met with the kitchen.
"What'd you find!" He ran into the room, eyes lighting up when he sees what I have.
"Yea!" we went to the living room, sitting down on the floor. The top of the container came off with the click.
"Let's play Uno!"
"You sure? I get pretty competitive with Uno." I say playfully. Carl looks at me with a dull expression.
"I know, I've played with you before. Yes I'm sure." He takes the cards out of the box, starting to shuffle them. I snicker a little before pushing the box aside and taking the 7 cards Carl put down for me.
