What have I caught myself into after signing those papers without reading?

That question still lingers in my head even after it's been days since I left New York City. We're those restraining papers against me because he wants me out of his life for good. It has been almost a week since I was trying to settle back into my hometown. Everyone came to see me off at the station and my eyes kept on searching for him but he never showed up. Erick followed my gaze and moved his head in disbelief which made me stop searching for him. I know I just have false hopes. He doesn't even want to see my face. Why would he come to the station to see me off? He wants me to be out of his life and that's what I'm doing. I mustered up a faint smile on my face to hide the hurt behind it. After that, we left. I have been trying my best to go back to my old life. I was doing my best to fit back into my normal life back then. After all, this is where I always wanted to be after everything ended but still, I had some unsettled feelings inside me which made me feel uneasy. I found myself getting lost in this feeling many times a day.

"Sage sweety come here" I heard my dad calling me which snapped me out of my thoughts. I stopped wiping the table and looked at him. He was looking at me from the counter which separates the dining area from the kitchen.

"Coming dad just a second," I answered him as I was almost done wiping the table. Once I was done I jogged toward him flashing a smile at an elderly couple on my way. Looking at people smiling warmly at me makes me feel good.

"Yes," I said as I put the wiping cloth on the counter to talk with him. I looked at him with raised eyebrows so he could continue.

"Come inside," dad said while looking at me. I could see the worry on his face so without questioning him I walked inside the kitchen. To my surprise, I found mom was inside with Elijah.

What are all of them doing in the kitchen?

"What happened, dad?" I asked, looking at their serious faces. Dad handed me an envelope. I looked at him with questioning eyes but he didn't say anything so I opened it to read. Suspense and the look of worry on their faces were killing me. But as my eyes moved on the words my eyes widened in shock.

"How can they increase the amount when we are near our due date?" I asked in my shocked voice. We have gathered almost the money but we are still short on the total amount. And now suddenly this person has increased the buying amount.

"Our six months are almost up. How will we get the rest of the money in one month?" mom said in her teary voice. She tried her best to swallow her tears.

"I called the person I talked with before. He said he can't do anything because no particular amount was put on paper and property price has increased because of the new five-star hotel started in out town so they have now sent us an official contract and if we want our place back then we have to pay them ten million" Dad said in his stress voice as he rubbed his template in frustration.

"From where we will bring this kind of money. They are asking for five times more money. How can they do this to us when we are almost out of time" I said in my annoyed voice. I put my hands on my forehead and pushed my hair behind in helplessness.

How can they do this to us?

"I said everything but he told me he is just an employee. He is just telling us the amount the owner is demanding. If we want to negotiate the amount we have to directly talk with the owner" Dad said in his stressed voice while looking at all of us. It increases my stress even more.
