It's not going to be as easy as it looks.

The man who was sitting behind the desk must have appeared calm and composed, but he was very complex. It felt like it was not easy to please him. I don't know how, but I could sense it in my bones. Something seemed strange to me. I thought this while walking behind his secretary. Sage, stop going all Sherlock on him. He hired you because of your capabilities. Working at your husband's restaurant under him is not easy. People who are in this industry know it very well. So stop doubting yourself. You deserve this job. That's why you bought it. My inner voice spoke in a firm tone. I exhaled loudly and relaxed my stiff shoulders.

Yes, she is right.

I should be happy about it. Finally, I got a job. A big smile formed on my face. His secretary gave me all the instructions. I will be joining next week, and I am so excited. I wanted to tell you about the head chef, but I felt a little uneasy about it. I don't know why I feel like this. How will he react after knowing I'm going to start working again? I need to tell him about this tonight. I went home thinking about how I was going to tell him. I thought about it the whole day, then I came up with the idea that I would make all the best dishes I knew and tell him about my job after dinner. It's the best idea I could come up with. Like I had a plane, I got everything ready. I took a shower and got ready. I wore a maroon evening dress. I know he likes it when I wear maroon.

"Is there something special today?" I heard his curious voice while I was busy putting all the dishes on the table. My heart started beating loudly. I took a deep breath to calm myself. I walked towards him.

"Yes, there is; we are celebrating something," I said while turning around.

"And what's it?" he asked huskily. I saw how his grey eyes roamed all over me. They darkened, finding me in maroon. Something happened inside me.

"I will tell you after dinner," I said with a smile while standing in front of him. He took hold of my wrist and pulled me to his hard chest, catching me off guard.

"No, tell me now. You know how impatient I am," he said in his deep voice while tugging my stray hair behind my ear. I put my hands on his chest.

"Then let's have dinner first so I can tell you about it soon," I said while pushing him a little away from me with a mischievous smile on my face. He groaned more precipitously but still walked to our room. He came back after fifteen minutes, all dressed and looking fresh. We had dinner while making small talk.

"So now tell me what we are celebrating," he asked as soon as we were done with dinner. I took a deep breath to calm myself. This is not the time to feel anxious. I have made up my mind that I'm going to go to work, even if he opposes the idea. He raised his eyebrows when I still didn't say anything, even after a good five minutes had passed.

"I got the job," I said in one breath, looking straight into his eyes. Silence is what I got in return. He looked at me with a calm face. It reminded me of my new boss. He had an expression on his face. I can't tell if he is happy or angry after listening to it. Is he going to oppose it? I looked at him with slightly worried eyes.
