Dazed and confused, the stunned dwarf shook his head and looked up at the obstacle,
"Dad, are you okay?" A younger voice asked and helped Brown Tom to his feet.
He dusted himself off and regarded the boy in front of him with bewilderment.
"Son, what are you doing here?" Brown Tom asked as he hugged his teenage son lovingly.
Brown Tom only had his son, Green Gable, so he was fiercely protective over him.
He gave him ample duties to keep him occupied with the hope that one day he would become the next leader of the dwarves but Green Gable had other ideas.
Ever since he was a child, he wanted to explore life beyond the forest but his father forbade it for safety reasons.
Feeling suffocated and restrained, by his overbearing parents, his only escape from his duties came in the form of Tiana and Oren.
Brown Tom never really trusted Oren as he regarded him as 'just another forest boy like his old forest friend, Jack, who would eventually leave the forest and forget them' but he was fond of Tiana and encouraged the friendship between the sweet fairy and his son.
So it was no surprise that when Green Gable saw Oren heading south of the forest earlier that day, he quickly agreed to help him to satisfy his hunger for adventure.
"We came to help" Green Gable replied innocently and waved fondly to Tiana.
Her eyes widened with apprehension as she shot him a glare to stop talking.
Knowing the enthusiastic dwarf since they were children, Tiana was used to Green Gable diving head first into situations that she would usually have to help him get out of but she knew she couldn't help him in this one and gave him her infamous 'death stare' that quickly alerted the over sharing dwarf to be quiet.
"Where is Jasmine?" The second boy asked from behind Green Gable.
It was Oren and he looked worried.
Oona stepped forward and a look of anger swept across her face,
"Where were you? I thought I told you to stay with Tiana? It's not safe for you to be roaming the forest alone anymore!" She shouted to the unaffected boy.
He maintained his stance and kept eye contact with the furious leader.
Brown Tom grabbed his son's hand and pulled him back,
"Best to leave these two to sort it out, son" The awkward dwarf recommended as he gave a subtle wink to Oren as a salute to his bravery for standing his ground with Oona and went to join Tiana to watch on from a safe distance.
"Why are we not safe anymore?" Oren continued with a raised eyebrow.
He knew that he would not be privy to this type of information as anything this important was usually kept secret by the leaders until they could solve it.
In the past, all they had to do was stand under the trees and listen carefully as the tree creatures would whisper in chorus repeating the issues the leaders thought they kept secret but this time they were quiet, as though something was brewing in the shadows that they could not see.
