The sunlight streamed through the arch window in the princess's bedroom and highlighted the vacant expression on Jasmine's stony face.
She sat, motionless on the chaise lounge at the end of her bed as she watched her mother rush around her bedroom organising her dresses for the day's events and communicating the ever-changing plans to the staff.
"I need the gold bodice to go with this dress" the flustered queen announced to the bustling crowd.
"Do you think this is a good idea?" A woman asked to the side of the queen.
The strawberry blonde, middle-aged woman glanced over to Jasmine and back to Lili with concern.
"I don't have a choice, Anne" Lili replied with a heavy heart.
The queen's lady in waiting gave a heavy sigh and broke protocol by giving her friend a supportive hug.
The crowd of staff gasped at the woman's inappropriate gesture as the queen smiled and reciprocated her embrace.
A sigh of relief swept through the scrutinising staff and the room became a flurry of frenzied excitement again with the door remaining wide open for the constant footfall of maids and dressmakers,
"Any room for one more?" A friendly voice asked behind the small crowd.
"Of course, Emma! Come in!" Lili smiled and hugged the excited blonde girl as she also embraced her mother, Anne, lovingly.
"Maybe you could help your friend get into the mood for her special day?" Lili continued as she regarded her daughter's distant appearance with remorse.
Emma nodded and went over to sit next to her best friend.
She regarded her emotionless friend with concern and grabbed her hand with a sneaky smirk on her face,
"Do you want to escape for a minute?" She whispered and glanced over to the bathroom door.
Before the princess could reply, the mischievous girl pulled her up and carefully made her way to the bathroom door, trying to avoid getting swept up in the swarm of staff.
Jasmine mechanically followed as Emma slammed the door firmly shut and locked it.
"Come sit down" Emma gestured and sat on the cold, stone floor.
Her brown dress ballooned up to her head as she struggled to control the boned frame under the skirt section of her garment.
Jasmine sat on the side of her copper bath and regarded Emma's floundering with a deadpan glare.
"I can't believe you're getting married before me!" She gushed.
"I don't want to be married" Jasmine muttered, looking down at the floor in despair.
"Don't you want a husband and babies?" Emma questioned as she finally controlled her elaborate outfit.
