"Where are you?" Jasmine grumbled to herself as she threw clothing out of the forest green and gold chest her parents gifted her on her sixth birthday.
Expensive silk scarves, satin gloves and bonnets flew into the air as the frantic princess rummaged inside the large box, determined to find the important item.
Exasperated, she kicked the side of the chest and slumped to the floor in defeat.
"I need it otherwise I'll never get out to go to the forest!" She cried to the empty room and put her head on her knees in frustration.
The silence dampened her preservation and she slowly got up and started to pack away the tossed items with a heavy heart.
A tear escaped her eye as she watched it drop inside the red velvet interior and disappear into the felt fabric before a clicking sound distracted her attention.
Curious, she stopped folding her purple silk shawl and slowly knelt down in front of the open chest.
She cautiously looked inside the deep box to see a small piece of the panel sticking out of the side.
Jasmine carefully reached down and opened the hidden section with surprise.
"How did you get in there?" She gasped, holding up the small burnt orange journal in bewilderment.
She looked at the size of her the book then again at the small slit in the side of the chest and shook her head in perplexity,
"There's not enough room for you to fit in there and I didn't perform a spell so how did you-" she queried.
Jasmine jumped back in astonishment as her question was cut short by an unseen force.
The chest lid slammed shut and locked itself on her last word as the petrified princess scuttled back in surprise.
"Who's there?" She stammered to the empty space.
No response came back.
The nervous princess slowly rose to her feet and cautiously checked every inch of her room for the unseen visitor.
"I must be going crazy!" She thought as she cautiously flopped down on the end of her bed and observed the closed chest before opening her book and flicking through the pages with determination.
With one eye on the chest and another on the pages of her book, the confused princess flicked through handwritten notes on transformation, invisibility and protection spells.
"I have to try" she mumbled to herself as she focused on one particular page and ran to the bathroom.
She grabbed a fluffy white towel and positioned it on the chair before standing back and holding her arms out towards it.
She closed her eyes and whispered,
"Mutatio".
Jasmine opened one eye slightly and peeked at the towel, letting out a sigh of annoyance.
"Come on! She'll be here soon!" Jasmine urged as an orange hue lit the room with warmth as the sun began to set.
Sounds of carriages arriving and laughter could be heard from the courtyard as more guests started to arrive for the celebrations, making Jasmine more focused by the minute.
The persistent princess closed her eyes again, took a deep breath and cleared her mind.
Images of herself standing in a stark white room blinked into her mind.
"Mutatio" she muttered again with more determination as the images began to fade from her mind and her body began to light up from the inside.
A sizzling sensation swirled around her veins, making her twitch uncontrollably and she slowly opened her eyes with a smirk on her face.
