When I woke up I felt somebody wrapped up next to me, though I could immediately tell that it wasn't Hitoshi. Before freaking out I opened my eyes and looked down, finding Eri curled into my side, fast asleep. I carefully started lifting myself up, doing everything I could not to wake her up.
Once I was in the clear I walked to the kitchen, finding Hitsohi at the stove. "Hey, good to see you awake."
"Why was Eri-"
"She ended up getting tired not long after you and wanted to take a nap with you, sorry if she bothered you at all." Hitoshi explained.
"It's fine, I was just curious." I replied, sitting down at the table.
"You hungry? I had a feeling you'd be up soon so I decided to make you something. If you weren't awake by the time it finished I was gonna go wake you up myself."
Hitoshi finished up what he was making the handed me a plate of it. I happily accepted, grateful for how much Toshi thinks about me. "Good?" Hitoshi asked as he sat down across from me with his own plate.
I nodded, "Very, I appreciate your timing very much." Hitoshi laughed, his eyes shining. "Eijiro still around?" I asked.
"No, he said he had plans so he headed out while you were sleeping. Why?"
I reached across the table and took his hand in mine, "If he's not here that means that I get some alone time with you while Eri's sleeping."
Hitoshi smiled, "There's this movie I've been wanting to show you, we can do that once we're done here if you'd like."
"I would like that, quite a bit actually." I responded. Hitoshi and I were quick to finish up in the kitchen, Toshi telling me to go turn on the tv as he quickly did the dishes. I did as I was told and went over to the couch, grabbing the remote before sitting on the couch and turning the tv on.
Toshi joined me a few minutes later and took over the remote. He lied down on the couch, placing one of his legs behind me. Once he had started the movie he put the remote behind him and held his arms out to me. I hesitated at first but turned so that my back was resting against him, my head on his chest.
Hitoshi was quick to slip one of his hands underneath my hoodie and rest it on my abdomen. I didn't really complain though, I was too focused on the movie. Despite my focus being on the screen I could tell that I was more relaxed than I had been in a while, it was a really nice feeling. Sadly for me, the peace I was feeling didn't last as long as I'd hoped it would.
Not even 30 minutes into the movie and Eri came running into the living room. "Katsuki! Can we play hide and seek?"
"How do you have so much energy? Didn't you just wake up?" I asked, very tempted to ignore her so I didn't have to move.
"I'm not tired anymore though, I want to play." Eri pouted.
"Eri, I thought I talked to you about this. Katsuki needs to rest more than usual right now, you can't have him running all over the place all day." Hitoshi explained.
I felt my heart break a little when I saw her face fall, "I can play a couple games with her, it's not a big deal." I said, hoping it would wipe that sad look off her face. It did, instead replaced with a wide smile.
"Kat-"
"It'll be fine Toshi, it's just hide and seek. It's not that bad." I told him before turning to Eri, "Go hide, I'll count to 50." As soon as I said that Eri took off. Hitoshi looked at me with concerned but I blew it off, knowing that I just couldn't do anything too excessive.
After a couple minutes I got up and went on the hunt for Eri. It didn't take me all that long to find her and she was slightly disappointed about it. I agreed to play one more round with her before we moved on to something different. Nothing was all that different with this second round, I still found her fairly quickly which I was fairly happy about, I absolutely hate being on my feet for any period of time right now.
Once found I was able to talk her into playing a board game with Toshi and I, something that I wouldn't dread doing. After getting her started on the game things went fairly smoothly for the rest of the night. We stopped playing long enough to order food for dinner then Eri wanted to get right back into playing.
We ended up playing games until Eri passed out. Hitoshi ended up needing to pick her up off the ground and gently placed her on the couch, covering her with a blanket and letting her rest until Shota and Hizashi came back. "You're going to be a good dad, you know that?"
Hitoshi looked at me, slightly confused, "Where'd that come from? If anything shouldn't I be saying that to you? You handled her really well today for not really having any experience with kids. She's lived with me for 4 years, I'm used to dealing with her."
I shrugged, "Yeah, but I think that's what'll make you a better dad than me, you have experience and I don't. I only really know how to put others' happiness and comfort over mine. I can assure she has fun but that's about it."
"Kat-" Hitoshi was about to go on but was interrupted by a knock. I stood up before he got to the door and kissed his cheek, heading off to my room to go to bed for the night. I was tired and didn't want him to say anything else on the topic so I opted that going to bed now was my best option.
Despite how much I wanted to go to sleep now I didn't very much succeed. My mind was flooded with thoughts of my possible failure as a parent and Saeko growing up to resent me because of it. My thoughts were interrupted by Hitoshi coming into the room.
I could hear him close the door then throw his shirt to the ground before climbing into bed next to me. He carefully put his arms around me and held me close to him while gently messing with my hair.
"I wish you wouldn't talk down on yourself so much. You do so well with everything that you do and it kind of hurts that you don't see that. Watching you play with Eri today made me realize just how excited I was to raise Saeko with you, it really hurts that you don't think that you'll be a good dad. You're going to be such a perfect parent, I can't wait for the day that you see it like I do." Hitoshi whispered, obviously careful in case I was actually sleeping.
I wanted to say something back to him but didn't, I instead just layed there, waiting to see if he said anything else. After a few minutes he turned to his side and placed his head against mine, "Goodnight Katsuki, I love you." He said before starting to drift off to sleep. I, on the other hand, was not able to sleep. I ended up staying up a decent amount of the night, Toshi's words echoing through my head the entire time.
