MAYAs POV
I woke up with a smile on my face. Josh called me special. I couldn't help but feel special after he said those words."Maya! You're awake. What happened last night when my uncle went to talk to you?"
I smiled to myself one more time just thinking about it.
"Well he told me he would be gone in a couple of days and that I'm a special girl... And he kissed me on the forehead "
"Wow, I don't know how I feel about that but I have good news too so let's both be happy. Lucas told me he liked ME last night!"
I felt like all of my broken pieces were being mended. I couldn't allow myself to fall for Josh but I think I was already on my way towards the ground. I was genuinely happy for Riley.
"It's about time kid!" I smiled widely celebrating with her.
I could overhear a conversation in the distance.
"Yeah, are you going to be there? Sounds good. I've been looking for some cool parties. No way. Text me the address."
It was Josh's voice. My rebellious ways kicked into gear.
"Let's go to Josh's party!" I say quietly so they Josh won't hear.
"Maya, no."
"Yes, it'll be fun. I'm going so you have to go."
"Maya we aren't going!"
"I'll let you gush about Lucas for hours straight and I'll pretend to listen."
"No, I'll do that anyways! Maya he's older, there will probably be boys and girls at this party."
She was so innocent, I knew there would most likely be a lot more than boys and girls. I was guessing alcohol and hookups but I was itching to go. I wanted some fun and Josh probably wouldn't even notice us.
"Maya, please don't make me do this. You know if you go I'm forced to go to make sure you don't cause trouble or get in trouble."
"I know and that's why I love you. What should we wear? We need something more mature looking so that we pass as 17."
" don't look at me, all of my clothes contain cupcakes and unicorns."
"Let's go demolition derby!"
Riley and I grabbed our jackets and left towards the shop.
I searched around looking for something that wouldn't cease too much attention but that's exactly what I found. I was drawn to a white laced tight skirt that would accentuate all of my curves. I grabbed a pair of nude heels and walked to the counter to make my purchase.
"Riley, need some help?"
"I like this!" She spoke
She held out a dress plastered with cupcakes.
"Honey, no. Let's try something a little more mature. "
I found her a shiny black sequined dress that wasn't too tight but hugged her waist. I added black heels to the mix and her outfit was complete.
"I love it!" Her eyes glowed. I think she was just attracted to all of the shimmer.
"What will we tell my parents, Maya?"
"We can slip out when Auggie is at Karate."
"And how will we know where to go?"
She made a logical point. We couldn't drive and we had no clue where it was. We could take the subway but there was still no telling where this party was.
