season 4, episode 2; are you there god? it's me, dean winchester

"Castiel? May I have a word, alone?" I glanced at Dean and motioned for him to leave. Rolling his eyes, Dean sighed and grabbed Bobby.

"Yes, Sofia?" Castiel asked once Dean was gone.

"This isn't exactly easy to say, but you're an angel and I have to know —"

"If I know that you are from a different universe," Castiel interrupts. "Yes, I am aware. I was the one who brought you. It took an incredulous amount of power and work, but —"

"Wait." I took a step toward him and let out a nervous chuckle. "You brought me here?" Castiel nodded at me. "So it was never actually Jenna's machine?"

"No, it was not. But it was a good diversion."

"But, what about my home? Do they think that Jenna's machine worked on me?"

Castiel shakes his head, "No. With time travel, it's different. For example, if I were to send you to the past, then time here would go on normally. But I brought you to a different dimension and with that, your world is on 'pause', so to say."

"So, the time is frozen until —?"

"Until you return, yes."

"Well, when can I return? Obviously, since I'm here because you brought me and said that Dean and I have a mission, it must be important. But when can I go home?"

"I am not sure. At the moment, it's until the mission is over. But who's to say that that's where the mission ends?"

I stayed quiet for a second, trying to think of my next question. "What about Dean, Sam, and Bobby? How do I —?"

"It's important that no one knows that you are from the future, let alone, a different dimension," Castiel says, "If they are to know that you know their fates, then it meddles with how the time is supposed to go. I'm sure you know that?"

I nodded, beginning my pacing with my hands in the pockets of my sweater. "That, I knew. Which is why I didn't even try. But why am I here? There are millions of Supernatural fans in my world and you bring me? Why?"

"God chose you specifically. I'm not aware of the reason behind his choosing, but he is positive that you are the perfect addition to the mission for it to be completed."

"You keep saying I have a mission. I have to complete this mission, but I don't even know what the mission is, Castiel! Do I stop as many deaths as I can? Do I stop a specific death? What do I do?"

"You'll know when the mission reveals itself."

I rolled my eyes, not stopping my pacing. "Yes, very specific, thank you." I sighed, stopping and looking at him. "Well, what do I do in the meantime? Can I tell the boys that I'm at least not from here?"

"No. Not a soul can know that you aren't from here, as I mentioned. It'll meddle with —"

"With time, I know, I know. But they are my favorite people, Castiel! And I don't know if you know this, but it's very obvious when I lie. And even though I know their futures and all, I'm not exactly the best at watering down the truth."

"You've done fine up until now. Keep doing what you have been and everything will pan out as it's supposed to. I will visit you when I've received more information."

"Wait — and you're gone."
