season 4, episode 11; family remains
This episode scared the crap out of me. It was a whole episode taken from Criminal Minds, I'm convinced. It had the real potential to be a part of Criminal Minds. You know, the one where a family moves into a creepy house in the middle of nowhere with a teenage daughter and a younger son, and the son starts to say he's been playing with a ghost but it was an incest-sexual assault incident and the children were kept from the entire world. As I said, Criminal Minds worthy.
We weren't even at the house yet, nor had they found the case of the mysterious death of the man living in the house, but Sam was lying in the backseat fast asleep while I was in front with Dean and using a flashlight to read. Dean was using a flashlight to read through the newspaper to find a case.
I smiled a little bit as the guy admitted his feelings to the girl in my book and flipped the page with the hand holding down the pages. "Get enough sleep?" Dean asked randomly.
I looked away from my book and toward him, finding his eyes still glued to the pages in front of him. I nodded and looked back down. "Yeah, as much as I'm gonna get, you know?"
Dean nodded. "I find it strange that you offered up the backseat when Sam said he was tired," he said. I rolled my eyes and looked back at him. You could hear the tease in his voice. "Ya know, just friends and all."
"And that's all we are, Dean. I just wanted him to get some rest. Just like I wish you'd get."
Dean sighed, flipping the page, "I'm fine, Sofia. You know that."
I frowned a little bit. "Okay."
He looked at me with a bit of shock. "Huh?"
"Okay," I said again and shrugged. "You said you're okay and I respect that."
Dean chuckled a bit and looked back down. "You're the complete opposite of Sam sometimes."
I looked back down at my book and proceeded to read. "I treat people like how I wish I was treated. It's a simple solution."
Dean and I remained quiet for a while as I continued to read and he continued to read through his articles. I enjoyed the quiet but wished I was listening to some of the music I would listen to back in 2022. Subconsciously, I started to hum Taylor Swift and continued to read.
Eventually, Sam woke up and immediately questioned Dean about what he was doing. "What's it look like I'm doing?"
"Like you're looking for a job."
"Yahtzee."
Sam sat up and I finally looked back to smile at him and went back to my book. "We just finished a job like two hours ago."
"Adrenaline's still pumping, I guess." Dean never looked up from his papers while talking to Sam. I closed mine and brought down the flashlight. Sam groaned a bit as Dean finally brought down his flashlight. "So, what do you think... Cedar Rapids, Tulsa, or Chi-Town?" Dean held up papers with articles he found for us to see.
"I am all for working. I really am. But you got us chasing cases non-stop for like a month now. We need sleep."
"We can sleep when we're dead."
"You're exhausted, Dean."
"I'm good," Dean said with a bit of harshness.
"No, you're not. You're running on fumes, and you can't run forever."
Dean rolled his eyes and shook his head a bit. He looked over at me. "See what I mean?"
"I see, but I refuse to speak." I set my stuff down in the space between me and Dean and opened the passenger door. As soon as I stepped out, I leaned back down and looked at Dean, and held out my hand. "Keys."
