"How... unethical is it to bitch slap a reverend? I mean, is it just a little bad, or really bad? What's the penance for that sort of thing anyways?"
Frank stared at his daughter in law. Her face was set and angry and serious. "You're serious?"
"Dead serious."
"Linda, you can't slap a reverend."
"Like hell I can! Just tell me where Potter is, and I'll kick him so hard where it smarts that his balls will be in his eye sockets!"
"Linda, that's assault."
"I know it is. But I don't care. Because when they mess with my Danny, especially arrogant assholes like Potter, then it's my problem too."
"And why is it your problem?"
"Because he's my husband! And that means his problems are my problems, too. Didn't your wife ever get pissed off because someone was publicly going after you just because they've got a stupid vendetta against you and your father?"
"Of course she got mad, but she never wanted to slap somebody."
"Oh yes she did, Frank," Linda crossed her arms. "She was just too polite and too much of a lady to say anything about it. But you know what, Frank? I'm not too polite or too much of a lady to play with the big boys. Not when it comes to Danny."
"I appreciate you wanting to help your husband. It shows loyalty and fidelity-"
"I vowed that, so I'm sure as hell gonna keep doing it."
"But tangling with Potter is a bad idea. A really bad idea, especially since you're a citizen. And he will have you arrested, no questions asked."
Linda groaned and plopped down in the chair, "well I just can't sit and do nothing!"
"That's exactly what you have to do. If you try to intervene, it'll only make it worse for Danny."
She practically growled, "damn that Potter!"
********
"On the plus side, your wife really loves you," Frank told Danny after the investigation was closed.
"What?" He looked confused. Didn't everyone know that, especially his father? His father who had been yelled at and proven wrong by his wife on more than one occasion?
"She came to my office, asked how bad it would be to slap Reverend Potter."
"No kidding?" A light laugh was in his tone.
"I believe her exact words were 'I'll kick him so hard where it smarts that his balls will be in his eye sockets'."
A smile spread across Danny's face. He'd have to thank her for that.
"She was dead serious too. It took a whole helluva lot to convince her to let it go."
"Her grandma, before we were married, once told me that Linda was fiercely loyal. Like, to a fault."
"And she continuously proves that."
"Yeah..."
********
Linda laughed as Danny kissed her neck in bed that night. "Danny, what's gotten into you?"
He lifted his head, "what? I can't just want to show my beautiful wife all the love she deserves?"
"What's going on?"
"You're questioning my motives?"
"Yes!"
"Linda, I am shocked and hurt," his voice was filled with sarcasm. He started to kiss her neck in the way that turned her brain into mush.
It took her a few minutes to remember her questions. "Not that I'm not enjoying this, because-" she laughed a little, "I really am. But why all of a sudden?"
"Can't I be spontaneous?"
"Not with two kids."
He rolled his eyes, "fine. Since you're so suspicious, Dad told me about what you said about Potter."
"... That he's an asshole who has it out for you for no good damn reason?"
"That you wanted to kick him in the balls so hard, that they'd be in his eye sockets."
She cringed and pushed her short hair behind her ear, "yeah... uh, I was pretty pissed off."
"And whenever you get pissed off then defend me on my behalf is... incredibly sexy." He paused between the last two words to give her passionate kisses.
"Hm, maybe I should do it more often. Especially if this is going to be the end result."
They both laughed as Linda pulled the covers over their heads, kissing her husband with as much passion as he had done three seconds ago.
