"What other job requires you to be fit for duty 24/7?" Nicky asked.

"Doctors and nurses are required to save lives while off duty."

"There's no binding obligation to do so."

And before anyone could bring up the Hippocratic oath, Linda stared daggers at Erin. "So if I see a guy dying on the side of the road, and it's my day off, I'm just supposed to say, oh well! Not my problem. Let's not let it ruin my day off!"

"Li-"

"Because that would make me like the Levite, and the priest. That would make me no better than the criminals Danny and Jamie arrest. You're saying I'm just supposed to ignore someone dying on the street— I'm supposed to ignore all my medical training- not to mention my motherly instincts- and just let that person suffer because I'm grabbing a coffee?"

Linda shook her head and pushed her chair back, "don't try telling me you think my job is as important as yours. Because now I know you think it isn't. If it wasn't for doctors and nurses, you'd all be dead right now!"

Linda stood and left the table, leaving everyone to look at Erin. She was about to defend her case, when Linda walked in again.

"Do you think my job is easy? Do you think I'm unaffected by all the death and grief? Do you think I don't cry sometimes? Some days I want to throw in the towel, and just forget it all. But I can't because I love my job, it's my calling. Being a nurse takes a toll on my mental and physical health, as Danny can attest to. I chose to break my back and get groped and punched all day long. I'm sorry that I don't have the luxury of sitting on my ass all day in a cushy office."

Linda left again, a door sort of slamming behind her a few moments later. Erin stared at Danny.

"What?"

"Aren't you going to talk some sense into her?"

"I happen to agree with her, sis."

"Well you have to do something with her!"

"Fine," he said, mostly to get her to shut up.

"What're you going to do?"

"I'll probably bang her."

Erin huffed, and the rest of the table complained about his innuendo.
