Blood dribbled from your lips, you've probably swallowed a few teeth during this fight too. Your knuckles were grazed and bleeding, ankles sore and muscles aching. It wasn't meant to end like this and yet you knew deep down in your heart, that this was the only outcome.

He was the one variable you couldn't predict, couldn't control. It all started when G.U.N stormed your small island home, seemingly for no reason; but they always have a motive. They cared little for the life you had made for yourself, they shoved you up against a wall in handcuffs and dragged you off to the van waiting outside.

They wanted to know where he was, what he was doing and where he would show up next. You refused to give them any information, why would you? From the stories you had heard, G.U.N were monsters. And as for their questions, well, you wouldn't have known the answers anyway. It was very rare when he told you what he had planned, but that's how he liked it; it was to keep you safe.

"Tell us where Project Shadow is, now!" a faceless soldier barked out, you frowned, your nails digging deeper into the palms of your hands, "He has a name, y'know?"

The agent darkly chuckled under his breath, "Of course, it does. Please, forgive me. Tell us where Shadow the Hedgehog is now or we'll be forced to take you into G.U.N's detention facility."

"I've already told you this before, shit-for-brains! I. Don't. Know!"

"Like hell you don't know where it is!"

"He!" you rattled against your chair, growing aggravated the more this moron belittled someone you cared deeply about. The G.U.N soldier swatted away your aggression, "Whatever it is, G.U.N needs to know the location of Project Shadow. Lady, you are aiding a criminal."

"He's not a criminal, he's a hero!"

"Is that what he's told you? Filling your head with lies." he huffed out, "Did he ever mention the Ark and what truly happened on that day?" You shunned him, of course, Shadow had told you about that horrid day. But from the tone of the soldier's voice, you could only suspect he would reiterate a very different story.

"You don't know him." you seethed out through clenched teeth. The soldier rested his arms behind his head and kicked his legs up on the table, the vehicle still moving smoothly, "If we didn't know him, then why did we come after you?"

You stuttered, eyes wide and breath taken; it was a trap. The soldier clicked his fingers together, "Now you're getting it." he mused. Just then the road got a lot more bumpy, the van started swerving and cutting corners, sending the occupants sliding. The soldier steadied himself before slowly turning his head to your startled form, "Right on time."

A large hole formed in the roof, a light too bright to continuously look at. Then it went silent, those few moments of anxiety as you waited for the metal to drop and meet the red eyes of a very angry hedgehog. The other soldiers formed around the hole, all weapons raised and waiting.

It felt like it had only happened in a few seconds, Shadow was in the van crushing soldiers against the metallic walls. He wasted no time in disarming everyone in the vehicle and knocking them out, or what you hoped was them just being unconscious.

But Shadow was different, you'd seen him fight before but this time it was more violent. He wasn't pulling back his punches, he wasn't calm and collective, he was punching for vengeance and for the sake of violence. His black fur emitted a deep red, his eyes buzzing with what you could only assume was anger.

The van came to a screeching halt, sending everyone tumbling around. The doors swung open and electric shots were fired at the ebony hog, however, one hit you instead. You were out like a light, pressed against the cold floor, unable to do anything as your body writhed in pain.

You could only hear growls, your vision was becoming fuzzy. The dark red blob in front of you was getting smaller, it was moving too fast to truly keep your eyes on it. But once your body dulled and your limbs went slack, you knew you needed to move. How? You didn't know, you only prayed your arms and legs could communicate enough to get you out of the van.

Your body felt like t.v static as you slowly pulled yourself along. You fell out of the van with a thud, grazing your body along the concrete ground. Shadow was in the distance fighting more soldiers, but as the soldiers ran for cover against the van; Shadow followed.

The vehicle was picked up and thrown like a bowling ball at a set of pins, crashing into civilian cars and setting a light. The explosions were loud, you'd never been this close to so many all at once, it hurt your hearing like hell. Some scraps of metal flew over you, some avoiding you completely while others scratched against your arms and face.

You felt your limbs come back into consciousness, perhaps from the adrenaline that was coursing through your veins. You kneeled against the concrete, the little pebbles and debris sticking to your knees. Wobbling to a stand, you looked up at the destruction that had occurred. There were holes in buildings and shops, the street was in ruins, and dead bodies laid piled up on the ground while bullets littered the earth like chewing gum.

And above all of it was Shadow, now floating in the air. He was encompassed by red, rich eyes in glee as he crushed another soldier's neck. His smile was wicked and not at all like the one you had grown to love, this wasn't your Shadow anymore. Once he caught your worried gaze, he zapped to you in an instant, his bloodied gloves covering your cheeks.

"Y-you're okay, I- I thought they had killed you." He looked around at the damage he had caused, "I did all this to save you." he didn't sound sad or remorseful, rather he held a child-like glee. You pulled away from his touch, taking a step back and swallowing down the vile in your throat. You could still feel the warmth of his hands on your cheeks, feel the sticky substance of blood now coating your skin.

"Y-you...Look what you've done!" you yelled out, surprising him. You pressed your hands to your forehead, tugging on your hair, "You killed everyone!"

"I killed G.U.N, they hurt you!"

"YOU HURT ME!" you cried out, tears streaming down your cheeks. Shadow looked appalled by this suggestion, he would never hurt you, he was hurting the people that took you from him. That's it, he knows why you say such hurtful things at him...they turned you against him.

"I get what's going on now, they turned you against me. They probably told you I was the monster, that I'm the boogeyman parents warn their children about at night. I ONLY did this to save you! TO KEEP YOU SAFE!"

You couldn't bare to look at him, it hurt too much, "But am I safe with you, Shadow?" you all but whispered out. He frowned, he took a step back and began floating again, his quills sticking up, "I am the only one who can protect you."

"What happens when you can't protect me from yourself? What happens if this-" you motioned to the chaos around you, "-happens again? Will you go on another killing spree in the name of peace?"

He was getting mad at this point, "You know I'd win against those pathetic-" he cut himself off, his brows furrowing the more he thought about his words, "Humans." he seethed out. You held back your cry, instead, you readied yourself. You braced your fists by your side and took a deep breath, "And you'll know I'll fight, pathetic human quirks and all."
