The Havoc Marauder had just landed on some mossy, overgrown planet. You could already feel the tussles of your hair frizz at the hot air burning off of the surface. It wasn't a swamp but the land wasn't exactly dry either, it was a weird inbetween and it made you uncomfortable. You groaned as your boot sunk further and further into the mud, mind buzzing at the thoughts of getting back to the ship and jumping into a shower; you wouldn't even care if the water had gone cold.
Tech was ahead of you, sailing through the slosh and easing his way through low hanging branches. You couldn't see his face, disguised by the helmet that sat upon his shoulder, you could faintly hear his chuttering breaths but that was all. The holopad he held in his hands illuminated the helmet, the scratched up white faded into a baby blue.
"Keep up, wouldn't want you getting lost now would we?" he bartered, flicking his head in your direction. He caught your harsh gaze, trying hard to hold back a smile at the state of your hair. It looked more like expanding foam with the way it was moving outwards, engulfing your head for protection.
You muttered under your breath as you caught up with him, kicking mud up along your trousers as you picked up the pace. "Can't we just say this planet is full of mud and go already? I think I'm starting to taste this crap in my mouth." you huffed out. Tech scoffed at your comment, continuing forward, fingers tapping along his holopad as he wrote down notes of your surroundings.
"We are on a scavenging mission, we will return to the ship when we are done." he almost sounded like Hunter with that attitude. You rolled your eyes, giving him a pout, you pushed past him and wandered ahead. Tech watched you go, unable to move his legs as he took in your form. Pushing his goggles further up his face through the small gap in the helmet, he mumbled to himself: "There we go."
After another thirty minutes of walking, Tech by your side this time, you approached what appeared to be a village. The viewfinder on Tech's helmet fell before his eyes as he scanned the place, a small beep emitting when it was done, "This village appears to be empty, no heat signatures detected at all. If someone were here, they have long since been gone."
"Ugh, creepy, abandoned, ghost towns, what could be better?" you teased, nudging Tech with your elbow. Tech's posture straightened, "Many things would be better than this, for examp- oh, you were joking." he shook his head and stepped towards the town, unbothered by its menacing stature. You dashed for him, not wanting to be left alone in a place like this, "Where do you think everyone went?" you asked.
You passed by what looked like a shop, the countertops were covered in dust and what food was left was rotting. "Not sure," Tech shrugged, readjusting his goggles to get a better look at the decay, "This planet is known for mudslides and floods, but this village seems unaffected by either of those disasters. This has to be something else."
You proceeded to explore, at some points having to bash your shoulder against the old wooden doors until they gave; you'd be sore and bruised come morning. Everything was left as though the people had disappeared in their spots, pots and pans either left at the stove or dropped to the floor, books left opened. A shiver ran down your spine, skin plucked and shaking, something about this village gave you major horror vibes.
"Tech, I-I think we should leave, maybe whatever thing caused the people to leave is still here?" You could feel your teeth chatter together in fear, but to Tech, you played it off as though you were cold. He turned to you with a raised brow, "Are you implying that something wreaked havoc and that's why the people left? Well, if something did attack the town I doubt they were able to leave."
"Tech!" you scolded, arms braced against your hips, you looked at him as though he was a boy. He shrugged his shoulders again, his sign of dismissing things, you knew it all too well. "I am just being theoretical about this, we have to look at the situation with logic, (Y/N). This planet isn't owned by the Empire or what remains of the Republic, during the war it was neutral ground. I believe it was too far from the outer rim, hence why the war never quite reached here."
