Chapter 4- The Deal

Charlie's POV

I'm going to do some more last things to see if Kriss would like me back. I'm starting to think that she DOES like me back. I remembered the words she said to me: "I love you too, Charlie." I mean, it can be a love as in friend kind of way, right? But I couldn't help but feel happy when she said those words.

This movie thing isn't actually a date, it's just a test to see if Kriss really likes me back. If not, well, too bad, I guess. I know Pete liked Kriss and she liked him back, but I just want to see if I could win her heart this time. It was obvious that Kriss noticed that Pete started not minding her since the first day of school, making her sad. Actually, Kriss and Pete had started not talking to each other since 2nd year's last week of school, but I could tell she didn't realize it. That asshole, who does he think he is, suddenly not talking and not minding Kriss, making her sad.

I don't want to be selfless anymore. I let Pete have Kriss already, and Pete has hurt Kriss too many times. Acting like a jerk...avoiding her....not talking to her....That made her sad. And now that both of them aren't talking to each other, it's now my turn to have Kriss. It's up to her whether she'll like me back. I'm also beginning to think that...that she is starting to like me back...

"Charlie," Christian said, breaking my thoughts, "You do know that Pete will be mad at you once he finds out about you scheme to try and have Kriss."

"Well-- yeah. But he won't think it's my scheme, he'll just think we're going as best friends. As usual," I said sadly.

"Look, Charlie, I understand you," He told me. At first I didn't get it. Then I remembered that Christian likes Kriss, too, and she didn't return the feeling to him.

"Well, how about you? When are you ever gonna man up and tell her about your feelings?"

He shrugged. "I dunno. Someday, but not today." was his answer.

"Anyway, good luck on the movie night and on Kriss," He said patting my back. "I hope that one of us would would have Kriss in the end."

Pete's POV

"Um...Pete? What's happening between you and Kriss lately?" Kenny asked uncertainly.

"What do you mean? Nothing's wrong," I said, eyes narrowed.

"You two aren't minding and talking to each other again...Just like...last time. Did you have a fight again or something?"

"What? No! And I know that we're not minding each other...We just sort of drifted away," I shrugged, as if no big deal.

"I can't have the courage to talk to her, no idea why. Besides...she's with Charlie, now, aren't they?" I asked quietly.

"We aren't sure about that. They're just rumors--

"The rumors are real, Kenny. Kriss and Charlie have been going out since summer," I told him sadly.

"No they're not! They're just best friends--

"Best friends who ended up being together. Yeah."

"I wasn't going to say that--

"Hello...." Chirped a girly, sugary, sweet voice. I knew that voice anywhere.

I turned around. "Renee. What do you want?" I asked impatiently.

"Don't be mean, Pete," She said, batting her eyelashes. Ugh..

"Seriosuly, Renee," Kenny said, annoyed. "Why are you here?"

"Well...." She prolonged, batting her eyelashes again. Is she flirting with me? "I just discoevered something yesterday...when I was at the movie house."
