Janine's POV

"Kriss, where's Kriss?" I asked impatiently, turning to Kaylie. It was nearly 6:00, and I'm sure Kriss must be at the dentist, but we've been standing here for a long time. We told her to meet us at the park, then we could go to Janine's house to 'watch a movie'.

"Almost here, I reckon." She replied, checking her watch calmly. "Remember Janine, we have to make sure that Kriss must get lost, that she'll lose track of us. That way, she'll walk around the village for us, calling us--

"Until she sees some kind of clubhouse with lights on and two girls who looks like us inside, yeah, I remember."

There were light footsteps coming this way, that must be Kriss.

"Hi guys!" She said.

"Nice dress, Kriss," Kaylie complimented. She was wearing a semi- casual semi- formal dress. She was wearing an emerald, sleeveless, knee-length dress, with an emerald bow on the right side of her dress to finish the look.

"Really? My mom insisted on it, that the dress that 'Juliet' wears must be pretty, but I'm not sure about this. And the cloth is so itchy....And look, she even fixed up my hair into this formal thiny style...It's so annoying I want to take it off...But if I come home and she sees it untangled she'll kill me."

"Well it's nice. I'm sure he'll like it...." Kaylie murmered absentmindly.

"Who?" Kriss asked carelessly.

"Kaylie meant SHE. SHE'LL like it. My mom." It was after a while before Kaylie recovered from her mistake.

"Why would she want to look at me in a dress?

"Janine's mom's sister's friend is working in a dress shop, and I kinda told her you have lots of dresses. She's close friends with her sister's friend and wanted to show see one of the nice dresses you have," Kaylie said convincingly, but the story itself was so aburd no one could believe it. Thankfully, she didn't put much thought to it.

"But I don't even wear dresses!" Kriss said.

"Yes, but you do have a lot--

"--Only because my mom buys a lot and forces me to wear dresses on occasions--"

"--Let's get going--

"--yeah--

We walked amd turned to a left."Hey, isn't this the wrong way?" Kriss asked uncertainly, peering at the surroundings.

"No. Shortcut, Kriss. Haven't anyone told you?" Kaylie asked in an unconvincingly tone of surprise.

"No, but I'm sure-- I mean," She pointed to a direction,"That way doesn't lead to where we want to go..."

"Oh, believe me, it's exactly where our destination is," Kaylie said with the faintest hint of mystery in her voice.

Kriss raised her eyebrows, then shrugged, "Okay then...If you say so."

Kriss was behind us most of the time, still unsure whether this was the right path or not. Soon, she was way behind us, as Kaylie and I trudged faster ahead.

"Wait, guys-- Now I'm SURE this is the wrong place...This is where my mom's friend lives and Janine's house is exactly at the opposite direction-- wait, Kaylie, Janine? Where'd you go?"

Kriss's voice echoed from a distant place and Kaylie gave me a smile of triumph.

Kriss's POV

What the....Where did they go? Just a moment ago, they were in front of me, then, poof, gone! I'm not afraid of being lost, I could walk back to Janine's house or my house in any second, but my worry is, where did they go? I mean, it's not likely your two friends just disappear without you noticing, right?
