Chapter 20- Leaving

Kriss's P.O.V.

Charlie's mood didn't change from yesterday's. I wonder why? He just seems so....gloomy.

"Kriss, I...have to tell you something," He said, his voice shaking a little. "I'm going to Philippines."

What?! "No, no, just..temporary," Charlie said quickly, looking at my shocked face. We sat down and he continued to talk. "My...my grandma died, just a few days ago...She had cancer, but she was fine a month ago. She was already cancer-free! Then she was rushed to the hospital one night after fainting, but it was too late...She died right before they arrived at the hospital." I could see that he was trying hard not to cry. Back then, when Charlie's parents were busy with work, his grandparents always kept him company. Basically, he grew up with them. Then Charlie and his parents moved here for business in third grade.

There was silence, and I spoke after a while. "I'm sorry....That...that must really suck."

"Don't apologize, it's not as if it's your fault she died," He joked, trying to lighten up the mood.

"How long are you staying there?" I asked.

"Two weeks."

"Two weeks?! I mean, isn't that too long just to attend a funeral? I mean, sorry, I know how hard it must be for you--

"It's alright...I'm staying there for two weeks to attend her funeral, which is in Manila, we might stay there for more than a day. After that, we'll attend my uncle's wedding, but it's far away from Manila, it's in Cebu. So we have to take a plane again to go attend the wedding in Cebu.....Then we'll stay there for a few nights, then come back here on Saturday."

"Oh....Congrats to your uncle and whoever he married....But I'm really sorry about your grandma."

"She's old anyway. 91. She's in a better place now....." Then he jumped up. "Enough with the sad mood now," He said putting on the best smile he can muster. "How about going to that ice cream store? My treat."

Then we set off.

Janine's P.O.V.

Despite feeling happy that Renee's finally punished, I'm still mad at Kriss about the incident three days ago. I mean, I'm glad that she and Pete finally sorted it out. They aren't against each other anymore, but they aren't speaking with each other too. Guess they don't know how to start a conversation or something...Though people are still confused whether who Kriss is with, #Karlie is still going on, as people more often see them together.

People snicker behind Renee's back though. Word have gone out that she got detention AND she was mopping the floor on Saturday. Renee ignored everyone, as if nothing happened, but still gave me death glares in choir, as if it's my fault she got detention. I just smirked at her as a response.

But students were like, "Omg! How selfish could that Renee be?" After they read the newspaper. "I always thought she was mean anyway...Wanting to have everything all by herself...." However, the physical fight Renee and Kriss had wasn't shown in the newspaper, but I knew about it as Jade and the others told me. I can't believe Kriss didn't even bother to tell me something like, "Hey Jan! I just strangled Renee half to death yesterday. How cool is that?" But no. She just went on with Charlie, ignoring me all the way.

And it was also seriously hilarious yesterday. Renee's role was one of Cinderella's stepsisters! And she like, yelled to our teacher, "How dare you make my role one of the ugly stepsisters?! You're just wasting my precious beauty--

Then Jade inturrupted, "Actually, the stepsister role fitted you perfectly. Ugly attitude, ugly heart, and well, ugly face, if it wasn't for your make-up." It ended up with Renee getting another detention for cursing at the teacher, while Jade was out of trouble.
