Janine's P.O.V.

"Janine, what really is the matter?" Kriss asked, her face contorting into concern.

"Janine, it's not that big deal," Kaylie rolled her eyes. "Kriss, that stupid Renee-- she joined the organization. She's one of the students who will organize Prom!"

I looked at them strangely. "Okay, and...? I mean I get that you aren't BFFs with Renee, but what's to be so upset about?--

"It's not just that," I huffed. "She literally challenged us."

"There were these booths that each 7 students were assigned to." Kaylie explained.

"And then?"

"The VP announced that whichever booth was the most successful would receive an award."

"Then?"

"The award was, well, fame." Janine said. "You would win a medal which would be posted in the school newspaper."

"Well, it isn't that horrible if you lose. I mean, I get you guys would be bummed and all, but its nothing to be too upset about. Gets?"

"It's not that, Kriss. Renee insulted us. In front of our group," I said.

"Well that's new," Kriss snorted. Her tone was sarcastic. "As if Renee has anything to do other than insult people."

"Good point," Kaylie agreed.

"No guys, no. Look, we have to win this contest, okay?" Janine looked at us expectantly.

"Jan, I thought you'd take this issue less intense than me," Kaylie laughed.

"Yeah Jan, besides, it's really okay to lose. Just try your best."

"Anyway," Kaylie said after a second. She side-looked me. "What was Pete talking to you about? Hm?"

"Dunno. I forgot." Kriss shrugged

"Whatever." I muttered and left.

Kriss's Pov

"Ok..did I miss anything? Janine doesn't randomly burst out like that."

Kaylie looked as confused as me. "Also dont know. Maybe she's ln her period or something," she said to lighten the mood.

"By the way, I'm on my way to the mall. You know, great sales. Wanna come?"

I thought about it. Pretended, at least. I didnt like shopping anyway.

"No, thanks. Got a lot of homework to do."

"Pete, Hi!" I waved once I saw him in the park.

"I'm sorry you had to leave awhile ago.....Janine looked really upset."

"Yeah, I saw." He said coolly. His face softened. "But its okay...I understand. So, anyway why was she so upset?"

"Right. Well, something about Renee."

"Oh, her," He said in disgust.

"Why? Do you know her well?"

"Nothing. She's just so...weird. Vain."

"I agree. Hey, you know what? To make it up to you, let's have a date." I stood up from the bench.

"Sure," He chuckled. "Wait, what? You mean now?"

"Duh, isnt it obvious? Come on, lets go! The small cafe."

"So, how's your day been?" I asked Pete.

"Oh, fine. But I was almost scolded by the English teacher for getting a nearly failing grade." He said sarcastically.
