people often ask me how love feels like, i could simply answer them that the definition of love is different for everyone, not just for different stories but also for two people falling for each other, the perspectives for love can be so different t...
Like every year, my excitement for my birthday is at its peak; I woke up early in the morning, dressed in a lovely pair of grey tees with feather details, modern prints, and rose-printed jeggings. It was also the Indian new year today, so I was not the only one being joyful; all other members celebrated the day as much as I did. I can smell the scent of love and joy in the air, guiding us all to a new beginning and new challenges.
Walking down the street for my morning walk to start my big day, I saw the moon, and he was waiting for the sun to wake up and shine.
"Siddharth," I said in a soft voice. It was quite different; that sound had a unique attachment and a longing for someone as if they've been away from you for ages. It also had a sense of acknowledgment and desire to be with them, to break all the barriers of reality and consciousness, and to merge into each other's souls to attain the divine reunion as if that's the purpose of this life.
I was still staring at the moon. Sid looked just like the moon but better because he's a lot near the moon, I can adore him and entertain myself with all his charms and that glorious divine glow that kind of enlightens me about myself. Whenever he's around, everything is so mystical. HE IS ADDICTIVE, AND I'M HERE FOR IT. I wonder if he even remembers my birthday...
"sis?" vrushti called me in a very cheerful from the balcony on the first floor of my house. She was on a phone call. "there's a call for you."
I ran back home. Today will be many calls for me as it's my birthday. People I've been avoiding the whole year are supposed to greet me without fail, and I must tolerate it all. I took the phone call hopelessly as I prepared myself to hear a scream of my maternal cousins yelling happy birthday at me or maybe my uncle and aunt calling from the USA to shower me with their love.
"happy birthday, dhvani."
Chills ran down my spine. It was not a scream or some average greetings; it was him. Siddharth called on my mum's cell to wish me. Oh, the way I got goosebumps here was so pleasurable. for someone who doesn't feel it, I'd say it was as satisfying as an orgasm but a somewhat less intense one. My bones tingled, and my stomach was filled with those little creatures. All this happened for that instant and lasted not too long, but dopamine levels overdosed.
"Hello?" he said in a dramatic voice doubling as a question for 'are you there?'
"yes?" I said while fighting with my 'pleasure,' "thank you, thank you. How are you?"
"I'm fine, my parents are fine, my car's fine, everything's good. We just reached this place, and now we'll take some rest and start with the preparations for the rituals they're going to perform later."
"ahem, that's good. Make sure you don't mess it up, little troublemaker."
"Oh, I won't because I am not even allowed to help them."
we both broke into laughter.
The sun rose, and the moon smiled; they embraced the moment together. Clouds covered their faces as they blushed at each other, and the entire sky turned pale in their romance.
'This is how you're supposed to love someone, like the moon.'

As the sun shone brighter, the day grew busy. All the festive hustle and bustle is sometimes annoying; well, when you get your uninvited guests who would never fail to get on your last nerve, it was the marufamily.
One after another, we had a massive list of weirdos walking in the living room, eating snacks and sweets, and talking nonsense. Amidst all this nonsense was a good thing for us sisters to earn a lot of money in terms of 'blessings' or, I'd rather say 'formality.'
But I liked it all. We've never had so many guests coming to our house. It was not fun to entertain them and sit there pretending to be the exact opposite of what we were but to know that we are no more the neglected ones in the community was a relief. Also, this ensures my sisters and me a much easier future as we'll be considered a part of all this formal chaos called 'society.'. However, it would've been on another level if sid was here, roasting all these aunties and their useless kids.
I miss you, Siddharth.
My birthday celebration was followed by all this drama, which I don't enjoy much as nobody makes any effort as I do on their birthdays, but my lovely sisters made me cute birthday cards. The handmade cards are the only present I get every year other than the ritual of buying new clothes my homies decided. That's it, my big day ended but this time I was happy, and I knew I was in love.
"Daddy, when will we leave for Siddharth's house?"
"tomorrow night, beta."
"Okay."
"be ready to leave around eleven or twelve but don't forget to prepare things before you go to your uncle's house in the morning."
"oh yeah, we'll take care of things wisely; good night, pappa."
"good night, beta."
Good night angels; thank you for protecting me for a year more. I am very grateful for everything you have given me and at the top of that list is my new friend Siddharth. he seems to be a human version of you; that boy has been taking away all the pain and sorrow out of my life and filling it with love and light. My wish for this year is different than what I've been asking for all this year. I wish for him to be happy and loved in whatever way he desires and for my sisters to be as cheerful as they should be, free from all the unfortunate truths of my life and all the chaos. For me, I wish them all to love me and be with me, to love each other and me as much as we feel for each other, and if possible, I wish to become more than his best friend, to be someone who has got right to embrace his flaws and adore him, to touch his hair the same way he does, to feel his skin and to 'kiss him.'
