THEA'S POV:
Everyone has a person in their life who brings warmth and a feeling of nostalgia. Although you haven't seen them in years, holding them, even for a nanosecond, makes you miss them. You soak the warmth into your bones since you know that's what you've been looking for all these years.
I was uncertain about the person for whom I've felt this way since there weren't many moments. I sought a person. And when I genuinely needed a pair of protective, trustable arms, I was betrayed by one.
I don't usually invest emotionally because I feel that emotional attachment gives others the end of the string to pull on the heart even if I want it or not. However, when I do invest, I make sure I also have the string of the other person's heart. I like to be in control of my feelings and emotions. I hate it yet I like it when I remember every tiny detail of the most embarrassing, joyous, and hurtful moments.
"We're here!" Emric muttered while staring at the gate.
I noticed his distressing face as he picked on his nails. One of the things I've known about him is that he doesn't stress a lot but when he does, it's bad. He has been under stress since the start of this drive. His grip on the steering wheel was strained while his eyes were cautiously looking at the road.
"Emric, it's alright!" I said, brushing my fingers on his shoulder. He nodded, assuring me with his hazel sympathetic eyes.
"Yeah, it's just-" he sighed heavily, "I haven't visited him in a long time."
"Well, I haven't either. I haven't done much traveling since Rose was born." I softly smiled, encouraging him to go ahead.
We got out of the car and as we stood in front of the gate, I took a deep breath, and unnoticeably Emric's long fingers snaked into mine. Without reacting to the contact of our hands, we stepped on the grounds of grief and pain. The graveyard.
Although I haven't remembered the exact area, I somehow walked to the tombstone as Emric followed me.
LEONARDO REED - Friend~Husband~Father - 1980~2020
I looked up at Emric's face, he was probably reliving the memories of his dad. His grip on my hand loosened so I knelt and brushed off the dried leaves and flowers. I brokenly smiled as I put the fresh sunflowers.
"Hi, Leo!" I said, "Sorry for not often visiting you." I added as a gush of cold wind brushed my face. I hissed knowing how awful I sounded.
"I miss you. I miss your warm hugs and life-saving advice." A tear escaped.
"Leo, I'm a mom now. I've got a little daughter. Her name is Rose." I smiled and sniffled. "You know, you should've been here. I wanted you to meet Rose. You could've been her best friend just like you were mine."
Leo was one of my favorites. I would skip an entire school camp just to meet him on our yearly five days' vacation. He had nurtured my thoughts so beautifully that now when I seek advice, I miss his presence. It hurts! It hurts to not see his creased brows and white architecture hat. The pain stung in my heart.
I blinked back my tears when I felt Emric's shoulder brushing mine. He had knelt too. I wiped my tears on my grey sweatshirt and attentively watched him. He wasn't crying, not even a single tear had invaded his eyes. Stress and pain were a bad combination. His brows creased, deep in thoughts. He looked so much like Leo. His hair, his face, and his heart.
