EMRIC'S POV:
"So, what brings you here?" Kristin asked, handing me a cup of coffee, it tasted exactly how Thea makes it. Like mother, like daughter.
"I'm here for something important, which I suppose is mine, and I gave it to you for protection," I said as I walked around her house, glancing at the wall that once was filled with memories and now only the outlines of frames were highlighted through the dust.
"I don't remember any such thing you gave me," she said, hatred laced in her voice.
"Let me jog up your memory, starting with the year 2018, lake house, dad and Carlo's—"
"Enough!" She interrupted with a quick snap of her motherly voice.
"So, now, do you remember what I'm talking about?" I politely smiled since I wasn't here for any arguments.
"Yeah, but you said you'd never need it so what changed your mind?" she asked.
"The only reason I let you keep it away from me is also the reason I want it back," I said.
"What is it? You never told me anything." she shrugged as she cluelessly looked out of the window.
"Your daughter, Thea—" As soon as I said it, she snapped in my direction, and along with it came a wave of disappointment and rage. "I let you protect it because of her, and now I need to protect her, and that's why I want it back," I told the truth.
"You talk to her?" she asked, astonished by my actions.
"And you don't?"
"You don't answer a question with a question, Emric." she shook her head and sat down on her old floral couch.
"Sorry, and yeah, I talk to her— actually I live with her." I smiled, a genuine one.
"It's unbelievable!" she scoffed, "I mean how and why?" she asked. I understood her curiosity since I wasn't really following the morals that I made when I left Thea years ago.
"It's a long story, Mrs. Marino, but you can say, I'm literally not the man of my word, and your daughter is tough to resist."
"She is not my daughter!" she denied.
"She's got your green eyes, the same kind of curls, and your height; evidently, she is your daughter," I smirked.
"Unfortunately, yes, but I don't accept her mine because—"
"Because you blame her for your husband's death," I interrupted. "Kristin, seriously, how long are you gonna blame her?" I asked.
"Till I die" her eyes weighed in rage and pain.
"She needs you, Kristin. She is—"
"Enough! I didn't allow you in for discussing what that girl is to me or not." she shut me up and stomped inside towards the hallway which I supposed was her bedroom.
I can't believe this was the same house where Thea and Carlo once lived. It was one of the happiest places I came across. This place used to be bright and colorful, with music and a bar always ready for guests. And how can I forget all the tasty food?
However, now, it's just an old couch, dim lights, dusted walls, and an untouched bar that sat across the hall. The way the dust and cobwebs had covered the liquor bottles said it hadn't been cleaned in a while for now.
