EMRIC'S POV:

When I first fell in love with Thea, I had no idea I'd be looking for any chance to spend time with her. For some inexplicable reason, I imagined us growing older in love and living happily ever after. However, since the accident, I've realized the significance of small moments. When I left her, I realized how important her presence was to me and how lucky I was to waste it when everything was fine. When I married and became Maya's husband for good, I realized how much I belonged to Thea and never looked around for another girl. And when I finally decided to divorce and be alone, I realized that being alone wasn't an option. I exist solely for the sake of love.

A minute ago, Thea and I hugged out our differences after weeks of avoiding each other as much as we could. I just had kissed her and now, I couldn't even dare to look at Thea as her presence already felt shifted.

No matter how much I try to keep her close to me, the universe always pulls her away from me.

My wife was in front of me, while the love of my life was beside me. Every time I think nothing can go wrong after that; things go in a different direction.

"Hi, Ems" Maya entered the living room as I went ahead to greet her.

"Hi," I said flatly. "H-how are you?" When I asked, she went in for a hug unexpectedly, I awkwardly but respectfully hugged her back.

"I'm good. How are you?" She asked as I swiftly stepped away breaking the hug. Her smile faded as she disappointingly glared behind my back.

"I'm okay." She eyed me. "That's Thea, right?" she curiously asked. I nodded and turned around when Maya walked to her.

My heartbeat was racing faster than ever. They had never met each other in person and at moment, their circumstances were different, probably a worse one. "Hi, Thea, I'm Maya, Ems wife."

She shouldn't have said it though it was true. She was still my wife; I meant it or not. I could see Thea's insecurity swinging in her eyes as she gazed at Maya from top to bottom and glanced at me. She tightened her lipline as I mouthed 'sorry'.

"Hey, nice to meet you, Maya." She forced the words out. "You're— very pretty."

You have nothing to worry about, Thea. I love you, Sweetcheeks. I hoped she heard my unsaid words. For Thea, Maya was someone she'd compare herself with even if she knows I'll always choose her.

Thea looked at me again and her eyes said, 'You're a fool to leave her for me.' The disappointment and jealousy were jumbled up in her greens.

A minute ago, we were giggling and now a dreadful silence has overtaken us.

"Thank you," Maya stepped away to glance at the room. "Carol said it's your daughter's b'day."

"Yeah." Thea glanced at me quickly before she pulled Rose towards Maya. "Rose, baby, this is Maya, say hi to her".

Rose stood beside Thea as she introduces herself to Maya as she does to everyone. I was trying so hard to read Maya's expression and know how she felt but all I could read was a pleasant smile and judgment. A lot!
