THEA'S POV:

"Wic!" Rose cheered and jumped on Emric's lap as he startled from his sleep. "Why are you sleeping here?" Thanks to her for asking that because I was really confused.

"Oh, I was waiting to surprise you." His voice was hoarse as he spoke. "But you find me early." He hugged and caressed her head. "I missed you, Honeybug."

"I missed you too." She kissed his cheek and sprawled on his lap.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, crossing my hand under my chest. Rose and he lifted their face at me.

I glanced at him entirely as he was in a puffer coat, jeans, and a green checkered scarf. Nice! His nose was red from the cold, and his puffy eyes were covered in dark circles. At that moment, when our eyes met time stopped once again as I read his features. I can bet he bawled his eyes out after I left Lakehouse and hadn't slept all night. His right hand was covered in a bandage, and the slight stains of blood were all over his finger.

I lifted my lips to ask him how he got hurt but then I stopped because even if I cared, I shouldn't show it. I'm supposed to be angry and showing my care will only make me delusional and hurt my ego.

When finally, I noticed his hazel eyes again, I looked away. There were too many emotions to look through them and find his soul.

Why is he here? Maybe he is here to collect his stuff. Or perhaps he is here to stay, my angel interfered again.

No, he is definitely here to collect his things. No man is so brave to sleep on the door of a woman whose words have shattered his heart into a million pieces. Did you accuse yourself of breaking his heart? Was that intentional? my angel asked. No, it wasn't intentional however I regret saying those things to him.

"I asked you something," I said a little louder. He raised his brow as he eyed his backpack and back at me. "What does that mean?"

He chuckled. "I live here too. I came back as soon as my work was done." He emphasized the last sentence as he got up, holding Rose in his arms with the backpack and walking past me inside the apartment.

My tongue felt numb as I said his name. "Emric, stop it. Grab your things and leave."

"Where are you going?" Rose quivered, tears already welling up in her eyes. My daughter was way more dramatic than me.

"No, Honeybug. I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying here as I promised you and your mom." He smiled as I rolled my eyes.

"Rose, come here," I said but she shook her head no and tightened her grip on his neck. "Baby, Emric needs to go. He has his own family. He can't stay with us." I know I was being brutally honest with a soon-turning 2-year-old, but that's what I promised her.

"No! NO!" Her tears broke into wails just in a matter of seconds. "Wic, mommy, I, stay here." She blabbered between her crying.

"Honeybug, trust me, I'm not going anywhere. I love you, baby." He kissed her cheeks and also wiped her tears away as he put her on the couch. "Come on, stop crying. Here, you can watch the photos I clicked." he handed her his phone.
