I held Yeheni's hand and sat next to her. Shanalka had been dead for almost a year now and I really missed him. On the one hand, I thought it was good for me not to see his dead body when I started seeing Mehansa's lifeless body in my dreams.
'Number two.' I stood up holding Yeheni's hand when a nurse called. Yeheni limped into my arms and entered with me.
We both came to the maternity clinic. Yeheni was nervous because this doctor was a doctor we had never met before. Although she hesitated saying that she will reveal everything that happened to her again, I forced her and brought her along. I didn't need to see the second child die like last time.
'Sit down.' The doctor kindly showed Yeheni and me seats. I helped Yeheni to sit on the chair and I also sat on a chair.
'What is our daughter's name?' When the doctor kindly asked, Yeheni looked at me with a frightened look.
'Yeheni Yuhansa Samarasinghe.' I said.
'age?'
'twenty-two.' When I said, the doctor raised an eyebrow and looked at Yeheni.
'What's your name then?'
'Miniru Gamage.' I replied.
'How old are you?' the doctor asked me suspiciously.
'twenty-five.'
'Let's do the scan. Daughter, can go with that nurse and get ready for it.' The doctor told Yeheni by pointing to a nurse who came there.
I watched as Yeheni let go of my hand and followed the nurse into the other room. The doctor cleared his throat and looked at me.
'Are you her husband?' When he asked, I nodded in agreement.
'First child?'
'The second Dr. The first baby died before the birth.' I replied.
'What's the reason?' he asked again.
'They said that she was too weak.'
'Maybe because of the young age.' The doctor shook his head. I closed the door and looked at him.
I waited there with the doctor until Yeheni arrived ready for the test. After a while, the nurse called the doctor and he also left, leaving me there alone. I took my phone out of my pocket and surfed the internet for a while. I had no idea how much time had passed.
Finally, the doctor came with a stack of papers and handed it to me. 'This time she will have to be taken care of more than before. There are two children.'
I looked at the doctor in shock. 'Two?'
'Yes. twins. The scan showed that they were a daughter and a son. We will be able to know again in about two months.'
Yeheni came holding the nurse's hand and sat next to me. Her black blouse was too big and had slipped off her shoulders, so I reached out and adjusted it. Yeheni squeezed my palm tightly without saying anything.
'I will write some medicine. Take good care of your wife. Feed the nutritious things that she likes to eat. Do not give too much sweetness. Always contact a psychologist if possible. With two babies, our daughter will be able to be a good mother.' The doctor gently touched Yeheni's head and then handed me a sheet of medicine.
I thanked him and stood up. Yeheni clung to my arm like a child. When she came back home, she pressed her head against the car window and looked at the road.
'Would you like to listen to a song?' I asked her with a finger on the radio button.
'0X1 love song by TXT please.' she muttered under her breath.
