Veronica POV

We all sat around on Steve's couch for 30 minutes of silence. I, of course, sat next to Eddie with my head laid on his lap. He stroked my hair with his fingers to help calm himself down, my eyes trailing his neck and jawline as he looked around the room with anxiety.

"I still don't understand how Chrissy died...her eyes just disappeared? Her bones randomly snapped? Was this random...or did she seem to expect it?" The girl who I learned's name was Nancy spoke up, breaking the silence surrounding us. Eddie glanced towards her, obviously not wanting to answer another question about Chrissy's death.

Chrissy had been acting weird days before this...constant headaches, acting out of it...

"She did seem nervous to be there. She was kind of on edge." He told Nancy, my heart aching at the thought. She seemed completely fine at my house! Maybe if she'd have just stayed with me a little longer...this whole mess would have never happened. Chrissy wouldn't be dead and Eddie wouldn't be accused of murder.

Nancy bit the inside of her cheek and looked down at the floor, thinking for a moment.

Robin looked over at me, hesitating to speak. She knew it was a sensitive subject for me, but it was okay. I'd rather help to get justice for Chrissy rather than sit around and cry about her death.

I gave Robin a small nod, hinting that it was okay if she had any questions. She stayed silent for a moment, trying to piece her words together.

"Did you maybe...notice anything?" She asked as I sat up, looking at her blankly.

Yes, I did. And I didn't do anything about it.

"She kept asking for Tylenol...and talking about these bad migraines she'd been getting. She claimed it was from her mom...but um. Obviously it wasn't. She'd been acting off for a few days- I don't know. But yes, I did notice her acting strange...closed off." I replied, the redhead girl who I think they called Max immediately sat back, staring at the floor in angst.

Nancy began speaking again before Steve cut her off.

"Wait wait...Max? You alright?" Steve asked, walking towards her. She nodded and looked around at everyone, fear washed behind her eyes.

"Yeah, it's just..." She began, looking down at a brown string bracelet on her wrist. She messed with the strings as she continued to speak. "Those headaches Veronica mentioned...i've been getting those too. Also, I would see Chrissy leaving the counselor's office before i'd have to go in...and she looked sad. She looked scared."

"Fucking hell." Eddie mumbled, leaning over and pinching the bridge of his nose. I sighed, scooting closer to him and wrapping my arm around him to try my best to comfort him. I know he was scared...he couldn't even think about anybody going through what Chrissy did. It was the worst thing he'd ever experienced.

"Wait...so you've been having the same symptoms as Chrissy?" Steve asked protectively, everyone looking over at Max for an answer.

"No...I don't know." Max spoke quickly, looking down at her feet. You could tell she was extremely scared. She didn't want to figure it out and have to count the days for her own death.

"Doesn't Ms. Kelley keep files in her office? Like...of all of the students who see her?" Nancy asked, looking around at everyone for an answer.

I stayed quiet. Like I would fucking know.

"Why does that matter?" Robin asked, looking over at Nancy.

Nancy looked almost annoyed as Robin spoke. "Because it will help us figure out if Max and Chrissy had the same symptoms...and see who else was seeing Ms. Kelley with the same issues. It could help us save whoever's next, including Max." Nancy answered in a duh tone. I furrowed my eyebrows at her. Why was she being such a bitch to Robin? I'll show her what a fucking bitch can be if she acts like that again.
