Warni had never been patient. It was his fucking kryptonite. Chat knew that better than anybody. Taking things slow wasn't how Warni did things. Always playing tanks to charge ahead, and dropping games when action didn't start within the first five minutes.
Patience didn't come easy to someone who'd once had a short time limit. When his life was being sucked away at such a young age, he'd learnt to do things fast. To take chances and not hold back. Why fuck around when they only had a year left?
Then the year turned to one more. Then another. And another. Until he was cured, and left with this undying passion for life. The life that had once almost been taken from them.
So this? This break of yours? This silly game of cat and mouse? It passed him the fuck off. Out of spite, Warni stopped texting you. You didn't seem to care anyways so... So why should he, huh? Why should they be putting in all the effort?
Warni had other ways of entertaining themselves. For instance, school. Shocking as it was, Warni was a diligent student. He'd always enjoyed school. Something about filling their brain with knowledge was fascinating to Warni.
How fucking fun it was, too, to know more than anybody else in the room. For people to think them some dumb fuck, only for him to turn around and prove them wrong. God Warni would never get sick of it.
And as much fun as that was, it was even more fun to have someone who matched his intellect. That acknowledged his efforts of the pursuit of knowledge and gave him truly thrilling conversations.
Sure you didn't know as much as he did. Book smart wise anyways. But you embraced it when he taught you, you asked questions and always treated him with respect. Never once did you say he dressed like a drug dealer, or spoke like he had an IQ below 70.
Nah.
You were so much better than that. So above those people.
Warni laughed into the cold air as he stared at the rising sun. They leant forward on the railings of their porch and tilted their head.
A wren flew into the nest of a falcon. What a stupid little bird, he thought. Then he'd looked closer, and saw the wren had a worm. More, and there were little hatchlings.
He wondered if the wren was just acting on instinct, or if the wren and falcon actually had a beneficial relationship...
"Life's so fucking weird." Warni grinned to themselves. "Heart would love this shit..."
At the thought, they pulled out their phone and snapped the picture.
A wren and a falcon...
Kinda felt symbolic.
