Damshi woke up last, smiling at everybody else in the living room. "I hope you all slept well." She greeted. "Is everybody ready to go?"
Clearly, even Damshi wasn't, so you didn't feel bad about the nervous laugh that left you. She let out a small giggle in turn. With that, everybody began to go get themselves properly ready.
You'd never struggled so much with your appearance. What were you to wear when you knew hundreds of eyes would be on you? The mere thought made you nauseous. Behind a screen, it was fine. If it got to be too much, you could turn off the camera. Real life was quite different.
While you were in the middle of staring yourself down in maybe your twelfth outfit, there was a knock. "Coming!" You called while grabbing the door. There stood Dal in all of his Greek-god level glory. It made you jealous.
Clearly you hadn't hid that jealousy well, as Dal's calm expression turned nervous. "Is everything alright?" Dal asked, pulling on his sleeves.
"How—" Do you make it look so effortless. You cut yourself off and shook your head. "Never mind. Everything's okay."
Dal knew you were lying, that there were unspoken words. Nonetheless you two had come to a silent decision to not speak of it. "You look great." He complimented genuinely, a warm smile resting on his features.
"You think?" Dal noted the way your eyes lit up as though having been searching for such validation. He couldn't help but think about how different your personality was when there wasn't a screen between the two of you. How much more comfortable you seemed, how much more you trusted him.
No, not just him. All of them. Dal was loathed to admit it, but he also couldn't deny reality. To do so would make him a fool, and would all but remove him from the running. "Definitely so." He closed his eyes, smiling still, flashing his pearly whites.
That was enough for you. "Thank you." The words came off soft. You stepped out of your room and closed the door behind yourself. "Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah." He confirmed. "I think most of the others are too. Ah, besides Jianyu. She's struggling a bit." Dal frowned. "Damshi sent me to check on everybody but Jianyu wouldn't even let me in. I was worried because it seemed like she'd been crying, but I didn't question it." That was a lie. Honestly, he rejoiced knowing Jianyu was suffering.
What he didn't like was the worry that passed over you. "Which room is hers again? I'll go see what's wrong." You asked him urgently. Dal was slow to give it to you.
"Last one down the hall, to the left." He pointed.
"Thanks." A brief wave goodbye and you were off. The clacking of your shoes against the wooden flooring was all Dal heard. He'd been staring at your door in your absence.
... It'd be fine if he peeked, right?
