"Oh, good morning, (Y/n)."

Dal's voice shocked you, making you jump back and successfully knock into Amon. He blinked in surprise and then chuckled. "Did I startle you? Sorry. Didn't mean to."

"You're good," the words came out breathily as you regained your composure, "don't worry."

"Alright," you were beginning to resent that smile of Dal's, "well, good morning." He properly greeted you. "May I ask why you're leaving Amon's room?"

"No the fuck you may not." Amon snapped without a second thought. They draped an arm over your shoulders and moved out of their room. His response had you smiling nervously. It wasn't your place to say if Amon wasn't comfortable with it.

"Right, I apologize." Dal tilted his head down briefly, closing his eyes. Then he rose his head again. "Are you hungry, (Y/n)?"

"Uh— huh?" You blinked. "Yeah, I guess!"

You guessed? Who were you fooling.

The awkward feeling had flown out the window last night due to the state Amon was in, but now that things were calm... It was a different feeling entirely.

And it wasn't like it was easy to hide things from your friends. Especially Dal. He was so damn observant it scared you sometimes. He'd notice things you never would've. Pluck loose leaves off of your clothes and guide you away from shops that had sketchy looking people outside... This was nothing compared to what he'd usually notice.

Just as he was observant, he was quick to connect dots. From how you'd been in such a panic you hid in the bathroom as soon as the group arrived at the Air BnB, to now... It was easy to deduce you'd heard them.

Fuck.

"It's alright if you're not. I was just thinking about checking out this coffee shop." Dal shrugged it off, playing it as cool as he could. How much had you heard? Had you heard him throw Jianyu under the bus? Would you have really noticed what he was doing if he had? You, too, were becoming more observant these days.

"A coffee shop?" You considered it. "A caffeine boost may be in order." The words came out with a nervous laugh. You couldn't start panicking now. It was better to act like you hadn't heard anything, right? Because, clearly, they didn't want you to know yet! There had to be a reason why.

Maybe they were just confused.

None of them had come from great backgrounds after all. While you didn't know the full details, you'd caught tidbits. From the crushing expectations Ace and Damshi had to endure as children of prestigious families, to the illness that ruined Amon— and the one that's plagued Jianyu since forever... And god, how everybody Dal had ever loved abandoned him.

"I'll come too." Amon yawned. "I agree, a caffeine boost is in order. And fast." He grunted, running a hand through his long messy hair.

"Then I'll get ready and invite whoever's awake." Dal smiled warmly before turning around.

"I should get ready too." You told Amon, looking at him. He cocked his head to the side and rose a brow.

"Don't need my permission. Oh, it may be a hard ask," Amon grinned toothily, showing off his sharp canines, "but just don't look too cute, kay? The others are coming, after all."

Amon patted your head before slipping back into his room, leaving you a flushed, confused mess.

Maybe you were just projecting your own confusion onto them.
