It'd been late at night when you finally returned. Dal was there, on the doorstep, staring off at the night sky. He looked to you, and saw the exhaustion in your eyes. "I'm sorry." He apologized first and foremost.
"For what part?" You questioned, your eyes narrowing.
"Mm, all." He closed his eyes and tilted his head. "Perhaps I was rash." Dal admitted as though there was any room for him to claim otherwise.
"Perhaps." You muttered. "... You waited."
He laughed. "I'll always wait."
"Always?"
"Of course."
"Without hesitation?"
"With some."
"Why?"
"Why not?"
You wanted to laugh this time. "You're weird." Despite having said that, you sat down by his side. "You're all so different than I ever imagined you to be."
"Mm," Dal nodded. He opened his eyes and leant forward. "What kept you?"
"Huh?"
"Why did it take so long?"
"To come back? I just needed a breather."
"A five hour breather." He chuckled. You flushed, but you didn't know why.
"Yeah, well, I could've just left."
Dal sighed. "No. You wouldn't've."
"Yeah, I wouldn't've." You agreed, muttering.

A loud yawn came from your side, and you couldn't help but laugh.
"Stay awake." You warned, poking his cheek with the butt of your pen. Dal groaned in protest. "Come on. Stay awake."
"How are you so lovely?" He muttered.
"Don't you mean lively?"
"Mm, no..."
You flushed, looking down at him with furrowed brows. "Anyways," you coughed, "pay attention. I'm not giving you my notes again."
"I was up late..."
"I know you were. I told you a subathon the day before classes started back up was stupid."
"I should've listened to you."
"You could bare to do that more." You rolled your eyes. "I'm right a lot of the time."
"Most of it."
"All of it."
"Some of it."
The two of you laughed, receiving a few looks.
It'd been awhile since you'd officially got together with Dal, but he was just as lovely as he was before. He was like some sort of dream come true, some cure all.
Dal made everything feel better.
When the professor ended the lecture, you and Dal left together. You nudged his shoulder and he grinned at you, wrapping his arm around your shoulders. "Want to get some food-?"
"Miss (Y/n)." The professor called. Dal and you both looked over. "Can I speak to you?"
You'd been going to reply- but just as Dal got cut off, he cut you off.
"No." He smiled warmly. "She's got another class to get to."
Right. There was one thing about Dal that bugged you. Maybe the only thing. Notable in how disturbing it felt, spine-chilling.
The professor looked caught off guard. "Excuse me but you-"
"Let's go, love." Dal tightened his hold and turned his smile on you. Guiding you away without another word.
That smile.
You'd never realized how menacing it had seemed before.
