(A/N: Hey everyone, Jen here, I wanna apologise for the SUPER LONG delay. Life has just been difficult and hectic these past couple of months so I have had no time to write these stories or anything. Also... HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY MAKOTO AKA CURE SWORD!)

It had hit Makoto like a truck. She had lost her closest friend.
That bastard Edwin! It was all his fault! He killed her. First, her girlfriend, and now, Mana.

Regina's pained cries echoed through the desolate city streets as Mana drifted off into forever nothingness.

It took a moment to truly process it... but when it did, it hurt.

It hurt more than anything had hurt in her life. Losing the princess didn't even hurt as much. Her best friend just died. Her lifeless body right in front of Makoto, although slightly covered by Regina's golden matted hair.

Sobs filled the room. Makoto's knees gave in, and she collapsed onto the floor. Her knees or hands must have hit glass because there was now fresh blood on the wood-panelled floor, but Makoto didn't care. No amount of physical pain could compare to what Makoto was feeling right now.

That song... fighting the shifters... all of it lead to this very moment. Was it worth it?

The idol's head felt heavy, her senses seemed to fail as her vision was a complete blur, clouded by her never-ending flow of tears. Her nose was stuffy, with snot running down her face. Her throat felt tight, and her chest felt heavy, like a piano had been dropped on top of her from a mountain's peak.

Makoto herself woke up in the hospital twelve hours later, having had her wounds cleaned up. She must've cried until her energy gave out and she lost consciousness.

Sitting on a chair in front of her was none other than her friend, Yuki. Makoto's vision was still relatively blurry, but she could make out Yuki's defining features, like her shoulder-length brown hair, which had a single long blue streak near her fringe.
A recent development, but it had made her stand out more.

"Hey sleepyhead..." she whispered, standing up and walking to Makoto's bedside, before kneeling, "finally awake?"

Makoto nodded slowly and rubbed her weary eyes. Carefully, she propped herself up.
"Where am I...?" She asked in a raspy voice.

Yuki gave her a small smile, "you're in the hospital. Regina's... in the next room."

Makoto tilted her head, "why's she in the next room?"

"Mana... she would not leave her side. Completely refused."

Makoto's chest tightened with pain, and as dehydrated as she was, tears still manage to run their way down her cheeks.
"B-but she's..."

Yuki wrapped her arms around the purplette.
"I know..." she whispered.

The idol found herself short of breath, her heart began to race as she realised she could have saved her. If she hadn't have been strumming those chords on that rooftop, she could have been in the city and saved Mana from her demise.
But, alas, she failed.

"Hey, I know. How about I get us some ice cream? Take our minds off of this."

Makoto glanced at Yuki at the mention of ice cream.
Now that she was thinking of food, her stomach growled loudly, announcing it's desire for sustenance.

"Yeah... ice cream sounds good." Makoto responded simply. Yuki gave the idol a warm smile before leaving her alone in the white hospital room.

Makoto sat in silence, except for the sounds of stable beeping from the heart monitor. She stayed there, deep in thought, only one thing on her mind.

Mana was a Precure, just like herself, surely she must be fine... right? She was debatably the strongest of the Precure, so surely... surely she was fine. Her dry throat made it hard for her to scream or cry, so she just sat there, empty.

'Let Mana be okay...'

The door opened as Yuki returned once more, this time holding to dishes with vanilla ice cream and chocolate cake.
The brunette handed one of the dishes to her idol friend.
"The doctor's said once you're ready you can leave the hospital..." she said quietly.

The purplette nodded and viciously attacked her food, ignoring the brain freeze that she was now feeling.

Yuki couldn't help but giggle. In a strange way it was... adorable, seeing a normally relatively uptight young woman suddenly succumb to primal instincts, particularly over ice cream and cake of all things.

The more she watched, the more her heart began to race.
'What is this feeling?'

//

Two days passed.

Regina's cries could be heard all over the hospital ward, especially from the waiting room.
Makoto and the others raced in, and to their delight and joy, as if the gods had mercy on their souls, Mana was alive.

The heart monitor began to beep in sync with her restarting heart.
Tears of joy filled the room as everyone connected in one big hug.
Yuki held Makoto tightly, hiding her weary face in the purplette's coat.

Makoto and Yuki sat atop a hill together, alone. Over the course of several weeks they had gotten closer and closer, growing more and more inseparable.
From an outside perspective, one could notice the feelings between them. It was almost intoxicating.

Makoto looked out at the cold, cloudless night, the city being the only visible lights.

"It's... really beautiful," Yuki whispered, stepping beside Makoto.
"It really is." Makoto replied, looking up at the taller brunette.

The duo stayed in relative silence as they watched the night pass them by, the sounds of light breathing and distant cars driving by being the only sources of noise.

Yuki noticed Makoto's hands resting on the handrail in front of them. In an attempt to be sneaky or smooth, she moved her hand over hers.

There was an audible gasp from Makoto, before she hid her face away from view with her hair.

Yuki giggled and blushed. Makoto didn't pull her hand away, so surely there was something keeping her by her side.

"Makoto... please don't hate me for this but... I love you."
