A/N: This is a non-fiction piece I wrote last week, but decided to read it to my writing group today. Enjoy.
A light blue house on the corner, it was a two storey building with small garden out the front, with a tin shed out the back, obscured by a wooden fence around the property and next door house.
For as long as I could remember, it had been on that corner, it's color bright against the other brick houses on the block. At one point, it appeared to be a business, the other, it was occupied by residents. Recently, I've noticed the blue house, and next door house on same land, without vehicles. Furniture, and clutter dumped out the front, the building interior had been cleared out until only a skeleton of it's former self remained. a yellow construction vehicle parked out the front, it hadn't been there a fortnight ago. It's presence spoke volumes of it's purpose there, as well as the new temporary barrier around the properties. The estate hadn't been able to sell it to new owner's, or the land itself had been purchased, but needed more space. The houses were destined for demolition, some people had saw it from a mile away, others used to seeing it there as they passed through, without a second thought. The house had likely seen it's fair share of residents over the years, living in, and seen people come and go, and memories within it's walls. emptied out of owners, and old belongings, and parts of the building falling into decay.
This morning, as my bus pulled into my destination, I noticed crew men on site, and vehicle in operation, it's front claw biting into the side of the building; debris cascading onto the old yard, to be swept aside, and removed soon. The house next door, left untouched, for the meantime, but no doubt it's due to be taken down soon. Strangely enough, the bus stop seating, and it's bench were removed from their spots next to the footpath, and blocked off. Most likely construction work underway.
End of Blue
A/N: Since this story was written, today I saw the blue painted house had knocked down, only brick, and worn, broken wooden parts in a large pile, and trees had been knocked down and discarded among debris. the other house was bare, I discovered there was an old hut behind the other house, but at verge of collapse too. a few blocks away, another house, with lot of plants had been removed, and knocked down. Unlike the other houses, the debris was long gone, only dirt land remained.
Thank you for reading and hope you all have a wonderful night/ or day.
Sincerely,
