Broken Window

Eight pm at night and a young couple snuggling on a brown sofa, with a warm woolen blanket on their lap and cocker spaniel puppy curled up at their feet. Earlier they had decided to binge-watch some wild-western movies on the big television together, two hours, and soon the golden popcorn disappeared from the food bowl. Annah volunteered to go to the kitchen to make some more, with a grumble left the warmth of the blanket, and boyfriend's side, met with slight chill, her bare feet touched the wooden floorboards.

Minutes later. She was patiently waiting for microwave beeping, she saw a shadow pass by outside the window, and goosebumps spread across her arms. The next, an object came crashing through the window with a loud crash, square object landed at her feet. Glass splayed everywhere. she looked down at object. It was a brick. A fading thin string wrapped around a piece of paper, she knelt down to her knees and tugged the white parchment free. Curious, she opened it and jet black ink were eight letters.

I Know what you did last Friday night.

At first she thought it was a joke, someone trying a cruel prank, but the shadow, the brick to destroy her kitchen window. No, it's not possible way anyone had known. She'd deleted the messages and phone call history with him.

Boyfriend came into the kitchen, with a young pup trotting at his heels.

Part 2

"What was that sound..." Caleb stopped, mid-sentence when he saw the broken window, the floor with shiny glass fragments, a brick and his girlfriend kneeling on the floor and back. His mind processing sight before him. Annah discreetly scrunched the note in her fist and stuffed it into the folds of her jacket.

He can't find out. Not now, not ever. He'd never forgive me.

It was only just the beginning.
