Flora's friend, Diane Chester had invited her to a party at their house.
When Flora arrived at the venue, all she could see was old gray and white gravestones, and angel statue. A graveyard? Fog seem to drift across the damp green grass and enevlop in the distance.
Where was the house?
Thats when you saw a figure emerge from the fog, coming in your direction drenched in dark red blood, and waving with a kitchen knife in one hand. She intinitively backed up with palms in the air. They moved closer with sinister laugh. Was it real blood? Did they kill someone?
She told them to back off and leave her alone. They only laughed and kept walking towards her. She started to walk backwards, if she turned her back for one second they'd stab her in the back.
She felt her foot catch on a stray root and fell backwards landing on her back, the blood drenched person closing in on them and soon stood over them with a sword. She threw her arms protectively over her head and squeezed her eye closed. Bracing to the end. A minute passed and heard footsteps stop in front if her and something nudged her side with their booted leather show and unmistakeable sound of laughter. Not laughter, female and sounded familiar.
She opened one green eye and then another to see a familiar figure standing over her with piercing grey eyes amd messy curly brown hair.
"Diane?" Her friend smirked with hands on her hips.
"The one and only, Flo. I'm so sorry but couldn't resist the chance to give you a fright. But didnt expect you to bolt and nasty fall. Is your ankle okay?"
Flora sat up and lightly touched her ankle and winched.
"I think It's sprained."
"A light sprain but you'll live. Come in, I'll help you up and take to my place to get an icepack."
Her friend helped pull her up and allowed Flora to put her arm around her shoulders, trying her best to keep the weight off the ankle. Together the both of them trudged through the foggy 'cemetery' and made a turn.
"So what do you think of the cemetery, neat right? "
"Yep. Not what I was expecting. How did you mange to pull this off? "
"I told my parents wanted to do something different for Halloween party this year. Dad was estactic and wanted to help out. You know how he is about All Hallowe Eve. Somehow managed to get some neighbors on board to put this together and some of local kids dressed up to jump scare people. Its a lot of fun."
Noticed the costume country bumpkin but with a ski mask pulled to the top of her head. A reference to serial killer from Friday the 13th movie.
"For second thought you were a serial killer going to get me.."
"I must've done the job right."
Flora wore a Hogwarts ravenclaw costume with the blue and silver scarf and ankle boots.
Came to the house to see fake ivy cascading down and loud music blasting from inside, slightly ratting tbe windows. It looks like a haunted house.
Diane helped her friend up the steps and inside, the volume seemed to get louder her head pounding. In the living room she saw the furniture had been moved to the far sides of the room make way for a dance floor, table with spooky treats and a punch bowl.
She saw crowd of people on the dance floor, all in costume. She recognised some faces as friends, some of neighbors kids and some faces from school. Guess they heard about the party and monster crashed. Wonder about where Diane's dad went. But voices coming form back-door he must've been entertaining guests out the back with the younger siblings. Not far from the party.
Diane led her over to a lone sofa and Flora lopped down. Friend tomd her to stay put and would be right back with an icepack.
Sat back and watched dancers, some were couples getting close together while others in pairs or solo trying to pull off epic moves. The worm.
Felt the sofa shift as someone sat down next to her and turned to meet Hazel blue eyes of Roy Greenwood, one of Sander Highs own science geek and popular in some circles. She ducked her head and looked down at her lap.
Wonder how long it takes to bring one icepack. Beg her friend to hurry up, as her ankle was still sore. She really, really hoped it wasn't broken.
"So what brings you here to party?"
"Diane invited me."
Soon they became lost in conversation, finding they had some things in common, it was strange but liked it and invited to the dance floor with him, he'd allowed her to wrap her arms around his neck and support her weight onto his feet. She was a little worried she was heavy but he brushed it off. An absolute gentleman. All too soon Flora was sitting down and he excused himself to get ta drink for them both. Apple juice for her and can of soda for him. That's when Diane made her appearance and plopped down beside her shy friend, nudging her
"So how did it go?""How did what go?"
"You know what I mean. You and Roy talking. Saw you two dancing on the dance floor and look at each other. Something going on between you too."
Oh, here's your icepack." Flora snatched it from her and placed it on her ankle. "Thanks." It wasn't throbbing as much anymore. It srung but soon numbed the spot.
Her friend diabolical but she meant well, wanted her friend to have a chance to get out of her shell and interact with her crush.
Silently thanked her.
Roy came back and Diane slipped away let the two love birds have alone time. After three hours it was soon time for her to head back, before curfew. It wasnt safe after dark. Roy offered to drive her home, behind his head she saw her friend lip speaking words of encouragement, chance slike this didn't happen often. Flora turned to the boy and accepted the lift.
When he dropped her off, he kissed the top of her head and waved her goodbye before driving off. Flora put a single gentlehand to the top of her head, cheeks feeling incredibly warm. Inside her parents saw the whole thing, and warmly smiled.
That night Diane called demanding details. Flora only smiled and said tell her tomorrow. Friend groaned in frustration. Chuckled to herself.
It was a cemetary bash to remember.
