"but mom? i don't understand why we would even need one! im an adult i can handle a 4 years old!" you half whispered half shouted at your mom, only for it to be answered with an eye roll.

"oh enough talking! my ride is in 5 minutes i need to go now or i'll miss the plane! be nice to her, she's a nice kid!" your mom dashed out of the room, leaving you alone, clueless and baffled in the room. deep sigh followed seconds after seconds.

all you feel like doing right now is jump from the window and run away from the house. never in a million years did you expect coming home from hanging out with your friend and be greeted by your ex sitting in the leaving room playing with your baby brother.

you blurted out every curse words you could think of. to be put in this situation was the worse thing that could ever happen and the last thing you imagine would happen to you. what should you do now? greet her and act like nothing happened between you? ignore her because of what happened?

fuck it

you thought before walking out of your mom's room and towards the living room, even from afar you could smell her perfume lingering in the living room, the one you liked. the scent brought you back to the days where the both of you would stay a little late at the university's library to study but ends up watching random variety shows together while giggling quietly.

both of you were inseparable, everything was butterflies and flowers between the both of you. both of you rarely fought, rarely get into an argument and rarely even get mad at each other. but that's the problem, the both of you lack communication. you guys were too scared to say anything even though one of you were hurt. it was toxic but none of you realised that until one day, the both of stopped texting each other and just. drifted apart.

no goodbyes, no crying, no closure on what are the both of you guys' situation. just silence and that's all. though the both of you meet each other at uni everyday, none of you were too brave to say anything about the sudden drifting apart thing.

it has been about a year since, you still think about her and she does think about you. you'd go back to her, only if it wasn't for you being a total pussy and avoiding her every day.

"are you hungry? what do you want me to cook?"

you heard karina said that made you immediately snap out of your thoughts. you peeked from your mom's room to see karina kneeling down to talk to your brother. both her hands were on your brother's shoulder, eyes looking at him with warmth, she was looking at him so gently it made you heart swell.

stop it. don't look at her too long

you shook your head, and continued with what you were planning to do. you pass the living room where karina is,  and went straight to placing your rings and bracelet on the table next to the main door.

"can the three of us cook together?" your brother mumbled the words under his breath, feeling a little shy in front of karina.

"do you want to ask your brother what he thinks about that?" karina smiled weakly as she shifted her gaze to you.

a smile plastered on your face, she sounded like an angel, and the fact that she's talking to your brother like that made you feel some type of way.

you finally decided to stop being a bitch and   actually try to talk to her, that's when you started walking towards your brother, kneeling in front of him, right next to karina.

"of course, but promise to not make a mess and be good to jiminie okay?"

jiminie

karina's heart skipped a beat upon hearing that coming out from you. its been a while since she heard you call her that and though she knows you're only calling her that because thats what you brother calls her, she cant help but how good her name sounded like coming from you. she missed it.
