With her father lost to an enemy she does not know, Alex must use the powers she always feared to travel across worlds and get him back. It turns out, her favourite stories, came to life on other earths...

It all began when I was 10 years old, I had managed to open up a portal to another world, my father smiling and cheering me on. That was when he appeared. He didn't have a face, just darkness in the shape of a man, charging at my father whilst I screamed in fear, the portal collapsing. "Run Alexandra!" His shout was desperate, and I didn't look back as I followed the order. Once I reached the door, I saw him being dragged backwards through a black ring, and that was the last time I saw him. I tried to tell the police, they said it was a bad dream. My mother had died at my birth. I was alone, but I know what I saw, and I know I'm going to get my dad back.

"Alex. Alex. Alex!"

"What? I'm right here." I looked over at my best mate, David, who was looking over his laptop screen at me.

"You zoned out, was it Umbra again?" That's what he had named the shadow man, according to him it was 'the darkest part of a shadow'.

"Yeah, I just wish I knew where he took my father. All I want is to get him back." I looked out of the window, resting my head on the glass as he typed away at his keyboard. "You know what you need?"

"A drink?"

"I was going to say a day off, but we can do both." He shrugged making me smile. I watched as he moved over to the fridge and pulled out two bottles, tossing one my way.

However, just as I went to catch it I saw a figure out of the corner of my eye. It was a man dressed in black, and watching me from across the street.

The sound of glass smashing snapped me from my gaze, and I frowned, looking down at the alcohol that spread across the floor. "Davy!"

"Alex!" He rolled his eyes, mimicking my voice, "I'm not cleaning that up."

I walked the train, each person watching me, but I just watched the doors ahead, more importantly the dark mass moving through them. My fingertips sparked as I walked on, legs unsteady as the train moved, I didn't know where I was going, but I was going the right way.

"Alexandra."

I moved faster as the voice haunted me again. And then a hand placed itself on my shoulder, and I jolted, spinning to face the woman it belonged to. "Well?" Her brow arched and I stepped back.

"What?"

"Your ticket, where is it?" She questioned.

"Ticket? Shit." I let out a sigh.

"You don't have a ticket?" She folded her arms, visibly unimpressed.

"No, I do.." I glanced back at the grinning figure, "I have to go."

"I'm afraid you need to..." I didn't think, I just ran, "hey!"
