Riding on horseback throughout the chaos, Mujika questioned, "A temple?"
"Yeah. It's been pushed to the capital's outskirts and downsized as time passed. Long ago, those who could convey our god's voice oversaw it, appointed the king of every generation, and helped to govern our citizens." Sonju started.
"And so...they supported the hearts of the people. Because of my father and the nobility, our faith was distorted. The temples lost their power as well. And even now, citizens still pay their respects to the temple. Above all, the high priest and four wise men were such fine people. They truly dedicated themselves to our people." His voice was full of pure admiration.
"So they were your teacher's teachers." Mujika guessed.
"After the promise was forged, the high priest allowed the people to violate our doctrine. It was so they could protect their lives. But to atone for that, he observed the faith on his own. He continued to pray for the well-being of the people. It's because of him that people can eat cultivated human meat. Thanks to the sacrifice and prayers of the high priest and his followers, they quelled the anger of our god." Sonju said as they stepped off his horse and walked over to a pair of doors, throwing them open.
Mujika followed after Sonju who stepped inside the room, curiously looking around.
'Puppets? No, corpses?' She thought.
"They are the high priest and four wise men." Sonju told her.
"And they are still alive?" Mujika questioned with uncertainty laced in her voice.
"Yeah." Sonju simply confirmed.
"But...they haven't eaten humans...and it's been 1000 years...How could they be alive...?" Mujika asked.
"It's near-death asphyxiation. I don't know exactly how they went about it. But while still alive, they completely stopped their bodies' cellular division and metabolic processes." Sonju explained.
"That's not something just anyone could do." Mujika said with pure awe.
"Yeah. And they're still praying to this day for the sake of their people." Sonju stopped in front of one, staring at their praying form.
"Then, your idea is..." Mujika mumbled.
"To revive the high priest and four wise men with our blood. And after that, make the high priest king. They've been waiting for 1000 years...I don't even know if I can successfully revive them in the first place. But now that the monarchy has collapsed, the only one who can calm the chaos and bring the people together to guide them...is the high priest." Sonju said.
Mujika was silent before a smile stretched on her face.
"Then we better hurry it up before news of the queen and regent houses dying gets out." She said, holding up a knife.
"We promised Emma. We're not going to let anyone else die, nor will we let riot or war erupt. We will..."
-----
Walking in a huge line surrounded by armed demons, the children who were once at the hideout we're stiffly led through a dirt trial, all of them restrained in rope. Standing ahead of the group, Peter held a communication device, awaiting news on the capital. At the sound of a static beep, he and his group listened carefully for the news.
"This is a follow-up regarding the attack on the royal capital. The Queen has met her end. The regent houses and their families are most likely dead as well. At first, it just seemed like a revolt by rebels aimed at the Tifari, but disregarding that, we've appeared to confirm the presence of the evil-blooded, as well as...our cameras picked up human children and others leaving the castle separately."
