While Max and Theo gave Master the run down of what happened, my match with Nash and Dustin started. If the first pair were compliments of each other, this pair was like oil and fire. They're both hot headed and destructive. I might not come out of this one without a scratch.
However, there might be one advantage here. Since they're both hot headed I doubt their team work will be all that great. Still, they are both really strong none the less.
"Don't get all spaced out on me now!" Dustin yelled as he came at me with a punch. Well that was dumb, he left me an opening. I dodged his fist, grabbed his out stretched arm, and used his momentum to throw him to the ground. As I was pinning him down Nash made his move and I had to quickly dodge backwards. Thankfully he didn't touch me, too close.
Nash can manipulate things he touches by manipulating their gravity. He can make things heavy like boulders or fly in the air like a feather. It's definitely a unique power, not even his brother came close to it. His brother, Cody, was actually a caster. I'm honestly not sure how their powers are so different. Most of the time powers run in the family, of course sometimes the powers alter or evolve down the line.
Take Naxos and his sister, Naxos can create and control flames where as his sister can also condense them and basically create a blow torch or even something similar to a heat ray. Naxos can't shape fire, only change it's direction or control how hot it is, he can snuff a fire out as well. Their older brother, before he died, could control fire, but he couldn't create fire.
Basically what I'm getting at is I don't know if they were half brothers or maybe even adopted brothers, but I do doubt they were full blooded brothers. Not that it mattered to them. Still Nash's powers are intriguing. I better be sure he doesn't get the chance to touch me or I might find myself in the ground or flying in the air.
I also better be careful not to get torn apart by Dustin's power. Still, I have to take at least one of them down. I'm not sure what he's planning if I loose this game of his, but I know we don't have time for his doubts about me. Nor do we have time to fool around. I'd better take this seriously even if he doesn't. Calling this a game is stupid and a waste of time. It'd be more precise to call these more like mock battles to help improve our training.
They both attacked me at once and I was able to dodge them both. They collided with each other and obviously started arguing. It's not like either of them got into each others way on purpose, actually it would technically be my fault they collided. It was easy to dodge them though since I felt their magic. Both these hot heads didn't even think about that, they just rush in with out thinking.
They're too similar which makes them not a good match up, but Still I don't see any meaningful openings. I managed to redirect their hands so their powers wouldn't touch me but they kept coming and didn't give me a second to think. I can't keep blocking and dodging like this, so how can I gain the upper hand?
Just as Dustin's fist came close to hitting my face an alarm sounded and he shot his arm to the side so it'd miss me. If that alarm hadn't gone off would he have really killed me just then or did he plan to avoid my face like that from the start?
"What the hell, that came out of nowhere. Why didn't you dodge dumb ass? Were you trying to get killed or did that damn alarm distract you?" Dustin muttered. Wait was he seriously banking on me dodging that?? So then he avoided me when he noticed I was distracted? That was some quick reaction time, I was only distracted for a split second.
"Well, It looks like this game is on hold for now, we all have work to do. It's show time, sounds like the enemy has made their move. Evacuation team head to the tunnels, everyone else, lets go fight," Captain said. We all hurried to our stations. Why now of all times? Did they find out about Dustin's sister that quick, if so then they know Dustin is also a traitor, damn.
I ran into the others and we hurried to help people evacuate into the tunnels. A lot of people treated it just like the drills and it took some time to explain to them that it wasn't a drill. When the fighting started above the tunnels shook from the impacts and that's what ultimately convinced the citizens. However it also stirred suspicions.
"That sounds more like a bombing than a tornado," One guy said and I hesitated for a minute, but then sighed.
"It's probably caused by the high winds blowing things around, maybe even a few cars smashing into the ground and exploding. Who knows, our job is just to keep you all safe," I said, the lie sounded convincing even to me and I know it's a lie.
"Yeah, whatever. I still find it fishy, all this happening just after completing the tunnel system. Almost like you all knew this was coming. Not to mention I didn't see any dark clouds or any sign a tornado was coming," The same man said.
"Sounds more likely it's a tornado than a bombing, right?" Another man said trying to get the other guy to calm down. Then a woman came rushing back through the group and I stopped her from passing me. She looked frightened and in a panic. Of course Max and I asked her what was wrong.
It turns out her son was right behind her a few minutes ago, but he's gone now. I was hold up the rear and I hadn't seen any kids come back this way. It's not likely she'd be mistaken and the boy wasn't even with her from the start, right?
"Okay, We'll go back and look for him, you stay here with these two nice ladies," I said and Max and I took off. I saw Stella gently take the woman back to the group. Of all the things to happen.
Max and I checked all the entrances to the tunnel as we made our way back through. They were all sealed like they were supposed to be. All except for one. We looked at each other and nodded before heading up to investigate.
