While they were fighting I saw that faint glowing symbol on Tyrian's chest again. It happened when a Ice Shard nearly hit him, but was gone in the blink of an eye again. Still couldn't get a good look at what it was. So that hadn't just been my eyes playing tricks on me or some kind of reflected light. What is it? Could it be some kind of protection charm someone put on him recently? Has it been there all this time?
If the latter were true then why hadn't any of our tests picked it up? The former seemed more likely, but to completely hide its presence requires a very skilled Spell Caster. A caster that surpasses even my abilities would be the only one powerful enough to do something like that. If I could figure out what that symbol actually looked like I could probably find out what it is and where it came from. It only seems to happen when he's in real danger. But it didn't seem like the ice shard slowed down like that arrow had before.
When I went to stop the fight at the twenty minutes mark Barbarous stuck his hand out to stop me, so had he seen it too or was he just intrigued by this fight? He's always been a hard man to read.
At about 30 minutes they both stopped and looked over at us. Had they both just realized that it's been too long an I haven't stopped the fight? Barbarous motioned for them to continue and they hesitantly squared off again.
"From the moment he took off his shirt I realized he wasn't such a weak human. His muscles are very well formed and solid. I want you to be honest with me, Russel, what is he? Before you answer, don't think I didn't notice that light a few minutes ago," he said quietly, but calmly.
"Up until a week ago he really didn't stand out all that much. But we learned a lot about him since then and just the other day was the first time I saw it too. To be honest with you I have no clue what it is or how it escaped our notice.
Years ago when the boy was only four his parents were killed in a battle and since he was normal a couple of my normal subordinates decided to adopt the boy. We did all the magical tests we could and came up with nothing so we were sure he was powerless. His adopted parents were killed about 8 years ago as well so we took him in. Nothing ever really suggested he was different, but he's been through a lot over the years and that made him stronger.
That light you saw, it puzzles me too. Since we did every magical test we could I'm lost as to what it could be. Long story short, I don't know what he really is, but something tells me to trust in him and protect him," I explained the best I could. He studied me for a moment, but was interrupted when we had to dodge out of the way of Tyrian. He had dodged an attack, but ended up sliding on the ice and not being able to slow his momentum came hurtling towards us.
"Damn," he muttered once he finally stopped. "Sorry about that, Captain," he added as he rejoined the fight. The two boys seemed really engaged in the fight and even looked like they were having a little bit of fun too.
"Your right, I don't feel any magic coming from him or around him. If it were a magic spell or something we'd sense it, so why can't we sense anything. It's too quick to get a good look at it too. Do you think he might have the answers if we were to ask him about it?" he asked me and I sighed.
"I doubt it. I haven't even told him he was adopted, let alone what I've seen," I replied. He just looked at me in surprise and then sighed as well.
"Guess you'll just have to keep an eye on things then. Keep me updated on his progress. I'm starting to see why his friends trust in him. He certainly is unique and rather strong," Barbarous said then turned to leave and added, "Protect the kids with everything you've got. I still don't know all the details, but I will respect your wishes and stay out of your way."
"Thank you, Barbarous. I will do what I can to get the kids back to all of you," I replied and he nodded before continuing on his way. I don't know what he will tell the others about what's going on, but I hoped they will be just as understanding as he was.
"Alright, Boys, let's take a break!" I called out to the two still fighting. They came over to sit on the bench and Clayton handed out waters and snacks to them both. After the break he will face Diana and we'll get back to his 20 minute schedule, but I think I'll keep it where he's fighting back instead of just dodging. I had planned to start that at some point anyways and he seems to be doing pretty well with it.
I wonder though, does he not notice what is happening to his own body? He doesn't seem to be worried or confused at all. Could it really just be a protective spell made by someone else? Did he not notice that spear slowed down at that moment? Doesn't he see the glow on his own skin in those moments?
I would have noticed something strange like that if it were me. Perhaps he's so into fighting his opponent he didn't notice it, but still the slowed spear would definitely have made me confused and curious as to why it happened. Maybe I should tell him about it and see what he thinks about what happened. No, I shouldn't do that, he should focus on his training and the fight ahead. I don't need to worry him right now, it may effect his training. I'll talk to him after the fight, if we both live through it.
